The Heritage Scholarship is awarded to needy<br />

entering first-year students who represent the<br />

traditional constituency of the student body<br />

and who show outstanding academic achievement<br />

or potential, a high degree of intellectual<br />

curiosity, the enthusiasm and courage to take<br />

advantage of a college opportunity, a sense of<br />

service and social responsibility, and perhaps<br />

special talent in some aspect of the liberal arts.<br />

The Holding Scholarship, valued at up to full<br />

tuition annually, is awarded to an entering<br />

first-year student from North Carolina (with<br />

strong preference to eastern North Carolina)<br />

demonstrating strong academic talent and exceptional<br />

promise in civic leadership. Scholars<br />

may receive up to $2,000 at least one summer<br />

for approved travel or study projects. The<br />

Merit-Based Scholarships Application is due<br />

December 1.<br />

The Marcus C. Miller Scholarship is awarded<br />

to an entering first-year student who has<br />

demonstrated innovative use of information<br />

technology. The Merit-Based Scholarships<br />

Application is due January 1.<br />

The Leroy & Teresa Robinson Scholarship is<br />

awarded to entering first-year students from<br />

the high schoo<strong>ls</strong> in Montgomery County, NC,<br />

based on academic achievement, diligence,<br />

integrity, character, and leadership. The<br />

Merit-Based Scholarships Application is due<br />

January 1.<br />

The K. Wayne Smith Scholarship is awarded<br />

to needy entering first-year students, with<br />

preference to residents of Catawba, Burke,<br />

Caldwell, and Alexander Counties, NC, and<br />

to children of full-time employees of OCLC,<br />

Inc. of Dublin, OH. The Merit-Based Scholarships<br />

Application is due January 1.<br />

The Zachary T. Smith Leadership Scholarship,<br />

established by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation,<br />

is awarded to needy entering first-year<br />

students from North Carolina with outstanding<br />

leadership evidence and promise, often to<br />

reduce loan expectations.<br />

The Kenneth Monroe Tucker Scholarship is<br />

awarded to entering first-year students, with<br />

preference to students from Wilkes, New<br />

Hanover, or Brunswick Counties, NC. The<br />

Merit-Based Scholarships Application is due<br />

January 1.<br />

The USX Scholarship is awarded to entering<br />

first-year students based on academic<br />

performance and leadership, with preference<br />

to children of USX Corporation or its eligible<br />

subsidiaries. The Merit-Based Scholarships<br />

Application is due January 1.<br />

The <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> National Merit Scholarship is<br />

awarded to four entering first-year students<br />

selected by the scholarship committee. The<br />

annual value is $750, and can increase up to<br />

$2,000 based on demonstrated need. To be<br />

considered, students must designate <strong>Wake</strong><br />

<strong>Forest</strong> as their first-choice college in the<br />

NMSC testing program.<br />

The O.W. Wi<strong>ls</strong>on Scholarship, valued at full<br />

tuition annually, is awarded to an entering<br />

first-year student with superior records and<br />

excellent potential. Scholars may receive up<br />

to $2,000 at least one summer for approved<br />

travel or study projects. The Merit-Based<br />

Scholarships Application is due December 1.<br />

The Page W. Acree Humanities in Science Scholarship<br />

assists students majoring in chemistry,<br />

physics, biology, mathematics, or computer<br />

science, who have career objectives in medicine<br />

or science-related fields that require human<br />

service, and who wish to take unrequired<br />

academic work in the humanities. A separate<br />

application to the dean of the College is<br />

required.<br />

The Matthew James Alexander Scholarship assists<br />

needy students in the <strong>Wake</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> Dijon,<br />

France, program.<br />

The Henry M. & Ruth Williams Alford Scholarship<br />

assists needy students who have graduated<br />

from the public schoo<strong>ls</strong> of either the<br />

City of Clinton, Sampson County, or Duplin<br />

County, NC.<br />
