196. Spanish Across the Curriculum. (1.5h) Coursework in Spanish done as an adjunct to<br />
specially-designated courses throughout the college curriculum. May be taken for grade or<br />

197. Spanish for Reading Knowledge. (1.5h) Review of essential Spanish grammar, usage,<br />
vocabulary and processing strategies for reading various types of literary, social science and<br />
technical publications for content. Designed for students interested in strengthening reading<br />
proficiency in the language and aimed at preparing students to take the graduate reading exam<br />
administered at the end of the course. Undergraduate credit given. P—Intermediate Spanish or<br />

198. Service Learning in Spanish Language. (1.5 h) Experiential learning that links classroom<br />
instruction and community service done as an adjunct to specially-designated courses throughout<br />

213. Introduction to Hispanic Literature. (3h) Analysis and discussion of selected readings in<br />
Spanish and Spanish-American literature. Does not count toward the major or the minor.<br />

213H. Introduction to Hispanic Literature (Honors). (3h) In the honors section of Introduction to<br />
Hispanic Literature, texts covered are much the same as those presented in other SPA 213 sections,<br />
but coursework focuses more intensely on developing effective reading strategies and on<br />
improving written and oral expression in the language. Benefits include smaller class size and<br />
more opportunity for student involvement. Intended for students with a good background in<br />
Spanish (shown, for example, by a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Spanish Language Exam, a high <strong>Wake</strong><br />
<strong>Forest</strong> placement exam score, or by completion of 154). P—SPA 153 and POI.<br />
217. Literary and Cultural Studies of Spain. (3h) A study of the cultural pluralism of Spain<br />
through selected literary and artistic works to promote understanding of Spain’s historical<br />
development. P—SPA 213 or POI. (CD)<br />
218. Literary and Cultural Studies of Spanish America. (3h) Study of selected major works of<br />
Spanish-American literature within their historical and cultural contexts. Emphasis is on these<br />
contexts, including political structures, intellectual currents, art, music, and film, to promote<br />
understanding of Spanish America’s historical development. P—SPA 213 or POI. (CD)<br />
219. Grammar and Composition. (4h) A systematic study of Spanish morphology, sentence<br />
structure, and expository usage applied to various kinds of composition: description, narration,<br />
argumentation, etc. P—SPA 213 or equivalent.<br />
219L. Grammar and Composition for Heritage Speakers of Spanish. (4h) For heritage speakers<br />
who are competent in spoken Spanish. Systematic study of Spanish word formation, sentence<br />
