123. Introduction to U.S. Army Leadership Skill. (3h) Introduction to the Army tactical concepts<br />

such as map reading, land navigation and general operations with a focus on the Army Leadership<br />

model exploring the sixteen leadership dimensions. C—MIL 117.<br />

124. Leadership in the U.S. Army. (3h) Theoretical and practical leadership instruction. Examines<br />

communication and leadership concepts such as written and oral communication, effective<br />

listening, assertiveness, personality, adult development, motivation, and organizational culture<br />

and change. Lessons maximize student participation, inspire intellectual curiosity, and clarify<br />

practical application. Concludes with a major leadership and problem-solving case study. After<br />

completion, students are well-grounded in fundamental leadership principles and are better<br />

prepared to apply such principles to a wide variety of life experiences. P—MIL 121, 122 and<br />

123, or POI. C—MIL 118.<br />

225. Military Operations. (3h) Instruction and case studies that build leadership competencies<br />

and military skil<strong>ls</strong> in preparation for future responsibilities as Army officers. Specific instruction<br />

in the principles of war, decision-making processes, planning mode<strong>ls</strong>, and risk assessment.<br />

Advanced leadership instruction focuses on motivational theory, the role and actions of leaders,<br />

and organizational communications. P—MIL 121 through 124 (or equivalent credit as determined<br />

by the professor of military science). C—MIL 117.<br />

226. Advanced Military Operations. (3h) Instruction and case studies that build upon the leadership<br />

competencies and military skil<strong>ls</strong> attained in MIL 225 in preparation for future responsibilities<br />

as Army officers. Specific instruction is given in individual leader development, planning<br />

and execution of small unit operations, individual and team development, and the Army as a<br />

career choice. P—MIL 121 through 124 (or equivalent credit as determined by the professor of<br />

military science) and MIL 225. C—MIL 118.<br />

227. Leadership and Management in the U.S. Army I. (3h) Theory and practice of military leadership.<br />

Emphasis on the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the Manual for Courts-Martial, the<br />

Law of Land Warfare and the Army’s personnel, training, and logistical management systems.<br />

P—MIL 121 through 124 (or equivalent credit as determined by the professor of military<br />

science) and MIL 225 and 226. C—MIL 117.<br />

228. Leadership and Management in the U.S. Army II. (3h) Continuation of MIL 227 with emphasis<br />

on the transition from cadet to officer. P—MIL 121 through 124 (or equivalent credit as<br />

determined by the professor of military science) and MIL 225 through 227. C—MIL 118.<br />

229. American Military History. (3h) The American military experience with emphasis on the<br />

ideas and activities contributing to the development of the United States’ unique military<br />

establishment. Particular emphasis on civilian control of the military. Credit not allowed for<br />

both MIL 229 and HST 369. P—POI.<br />
