students planning medical careers, based on<br />
ability and need.<br />
The Alumni & General Scholarship assists students<br />
selected by the scholarship committee.<br />
The Theresa Mae Arnold Scholarship is awarded<br />
based on ability and need.<br />
The Camillo Artom Fund for Italian Studies<br />
assists well-qualified, needy students. A separate<br />
application to the provost is required.<br />
The Baker-Martin Scholarship assists needy<br />
students who have earned their high school<br />
diploma in North Carolina and whose parents<br />
(one or both) are employed in education or<br />
government. Preference is given to residents<br />
of Cabarrus or Nash Counties, NC.<br />
The Hubbard & Lucy Ball Scholarship is awarded<br />
based on ability and need.<br />
The Bank of America Leadership Scholarship<br />
assists students majoring in the Calloway<br />
School of Business and Accountancy and the<br />
Department of Economics, with preference<br />
to needy students and to students who help<br />
achieve and sustain the diversity of the student<br />
body. Application is made through the<br />
Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy<br />
and the Department of Economics.<br />
The Donald Alan Baur Memorial Scholarship is<br />
awarded based on leadership, dedication,<br />
competitiveness, and citizenship, with preference<br />
to members of Sigma Chi Fraternity.<br />
The Gaither M. Beam Sr. Scholarship is awarded<br />
based on ability and need, with preference to<br />
residents of Franklin County, NC.<br />
The George M. & Daisy Olive Beavers Scholarship<br />
assists one student on the basis of leadership,<br />
citizenship, and character.<br />
The James Wallace Beavers Scholarship assists<br />
first-year students and may be renewed for<br />
three years of undergraduate study.<br />

The Becton Family Scholarship assists a premedical<br />
student based on ability and need, with<br />
first preference to students from Augusta, GA,<br />
and second to other students from Georgia.<br />
The J. Irvin Biggs Scholarship is awarded based<br />
on ability and need, with preference to students<br />
from Lumberton or Robeson Counties,<br />
NC.<br />
The Blackbyrd Scholarship assists a chemistry<br />
major, with preference to the student having<br />
the second highest overall grade point<br />
average.<br />
The Jean Boatwright Scholarship assists students<br />
from middle income families, with preference<br />
to students who have exhibited strong community<br />
service.<br />
The John W. Boatwright Scholarship is based on<br />
leadership. Need may be considered but is<br />
not a required or controlling factor.<br />
The Ann Levitt Brenner Scholarship, established<br />
by M. Van Brenner, Richard A. and Felice<br />
R. Brenner, and Lawrence M. and Sally B.<br />
Wolfish, assists needy students, with preference<br />
to females who do not receive an athletic<br />
scholarship.<br />
The B. Macon Brewer Scholarship assists undergraduate<br />
students. Need may be considered<br />
but is not a required or controlling factor.<br />
The Robert C. Bridger Jr. Scholarship assists a<br />
senior major in the Wayne Calloway School<br />
of Business and Accountancy, based on ability<br />
and need, with preference to residents<br />
of Bladen County, NC. Application is made<br />
through the Wayne Calloway School of Business<br />
and Accountancy.<br />
The Thomas H. Briggs Scholarship assists deserving<br />
students.<br />
The William D. Brigman Scholarship assists a<br />
student in the Wayne Calloway School of<br />
Business and Accountancy based on ability<br />
and leadership. Application is made through<br />
the Wayne Calloway School of Business and<br />
Accountancy.
