31.12.2008 OFFSHORE WIND FARM IN BELGIUM
On the Thornton Bank site, some 30 km off
the coast of Ostend, VINCI Construction’s
Belgian teams erected the first six wind turbines
after designing, building and positioning
the foundations. Ultimately, the C-Power
wind farm will have about 60 turbines. The
first of these, 183 metres high at the tip of its
blade, was connected to the Belgian national
grid on 31 December 2008. On completion,
the farm will have an installed capacity of
about 300 MW, which would meet the power
needs of a town with a population of 600,000.
