I respectfully request that an appropriation of $120.00 be
made for the purpose of reimbursing Robert P. Maguire, Commissioner'of Electric
Lines and Lights and myself for our expenses incurred on a trip to Washington
February 2d and 3d, 19*4-2.
The Department of Electric Lines and Lights for some time has
been engaged, in co-operation with the Work Projects Administration, in placing
underground all conduits for the police and fire alarm system, and in extending
the system. A grant had been made by the Work Projects Administration
of approximately 30|000 feet of conduit to be used in the project. Late in
January, Commissioner Maguire advised that this conduit would not be delivered
unless an improved priority rating was received by his Department- Every'ef
fort was made to secure the proper rating through the Regional Office of the
War Production Board at Boston; that office was without Jurisdiction to make
the change, and Commissioner Maguire was advised that the application could
only be considered by the head of the Copper Division in Washington. It was
essential that a rating be received as soon as possible if it was to be
granted, as the manufacturer was uncertain as to how long the material would
be available. Arrangements were made by Commissioner Maguire and myself by
telephone with Washington, and we went on the night of February 2d, and saw
many officials In Washington on February 3d.
Commissioner Maguire has since been advised that the proper
rating has now been given his Department for this project, and the manufacturer
will be authorized to deliver the material which will be:paid for by
the Works Projects Administration, to the value of $3^7.00-
reimbursement.
