correctly, to build their con<strong>ver</strong>sational and<br />

written vocabulary, and to read and write<br />

approximately 300 more Chinese characters.<br />

The Child Development Program is designed<br />

for students planning careers working<br />

with children ages 0-18 in a multitude<br />

of professions including early childhood<br />

students wishing to explore the teaching<br />

profession in the K-12 setting. Topics include<br />

an introduction to teacher performance<br />

expectations and California<br />

Standards for the teaching profession.<br />

Other topics include pedagogical strategies,<br />

curriculum design, California subject<br />

matter standards, use of technology in<br />

today's classroom and the importance of<br />

current issues and legislation. In addition,<br />

students will be required to observe 45<br />

hours in K-12 classrooms. 54 lecture<br />

Parenting Your Preschool Child VI<br />

experience and a series of discussions.<br />

A variety of topics will be co<strong>ver</strong>ed including<br />

health, nutrition, sex education, discipline,<br />

self-esteem, reading and literacy,<br />

library use, media evaluation, hospitalization<br />

and illness, divorce and separation,<br />

death, parents as teachers, play techniques,<br />

and community resources. This<br />

course may be taken four times. 9 lecture<br />
