A student may repeat a course<br />

one time at another accredited<br />

college to alleviate a final grade<br />

of D, F, or NC earned at <strong>Citrus</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>. The student must file a<br />

petition and <strong>ver</strong>ify the grade with<br />

an official college transcript. The<br />

units and grade points of the<br />

higher grade shall be used in<br />

computing the student's grade<br />

point a<strong>ver</strong>age at <strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Then, the permanent academic<br />

record shall be annotated in such<br />

a manner that all work remains<br />

legible.<br />

A student may petition to repeat<br />

a course one time when it has<br />

been determined by the college<br />

that there has been a significant<br />

lapse of time since the student<br />

previously took the course. The<br />

units and grade points of the first<br />

enrollment in the course will be<br />

used in computing the student's<br />

grade point a<strong>ver</strong>age at <strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong>,<br />

and the permanent academic<br />

record shall be annotated.<br />

Pass/No Pass Courses<br />

<strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong> students may be<br />

evaluated on a Pass/No Pass<br />

grading basis in courses approved<br />

by the Curriculum Committee.<br />

Pass/No Pass course options are<br />

designated in the Description of<br />

Courses section of this catalog by<br />

the symbol, Pass/No Pass. A student<br />

must declare the option by<br />

no later than Friday of the third<br />

week of a semester for a full semester<br />

class (or 17 percent of the<br />

length of a class of any other<br />

term length) by filing a Pass/No<br />

Pass Petition in the Admissions<br />

and Records Office.<br />

Standards for Pass/No Pass<br />

Courses<br />

• A passing P grade is defined<br />

as C or better. Units are<br />

awarded and grade points are<br />

not assigned, and the grade<br />

is not used to compute grade<br />

point a<strong>ver</strong>age<br />

• A Pass/No Pass grade is<br />

defined as less than<br />

satisfactory (D or F).<br />

Units are not earned and<br />

grades are not used to<br />

compute grade point<br />

a<strong>ver</strong>age.<br />

Pass/No Pass Units Allowed<br />

• 12 maximum, during 4 or<br />

more semesters<br />

• Limit of one Pass/No Pass<br />

option per semester or<br />

session<br />

• Courses where all students<br />

are evaluated on a Pass/No<br />

Pass grading basis are<br />

excluded from the 12-unit<br />

limitation (see course<br />

descriptions for details)<br />

Credit by Examination<br />

A student in satisfactory scholastic<br />

standing who has completed<br />

at least 12 units at <strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

may petition to receive Credit by<br />

Examination for coursework offered<br />

by the college and/or the<br />

Advanced Placement examinations<br />

of the <strong>College</strong> Entrance Examination<br />

Board, <strong>College</strong> Level<br />

Examination Program, or the International<br />

Baccalaureate.<br />

Credit by Examination/<br />

Locally Administered<br />

Examination<br />

1. This examination includes<br />

written, oral, or skill tests–or a<br />

combination of all three–as<br />

determined appropriate<br />

by the department<br />

administering the examination.<br />

2. Credit by Examination shall be<br />

granted only for those courses<br />

that have been designated by<br />

a department as eligible;<br />

department approval is required.<br />

3. A student may attempt Credit<br />

by Examination only once per<br />

course.<br />

4. The student may not be<br />

enrolled in the same course or<br />

a more advanced course<br />

beyond the sixth week of<br />

classes, or equivalent.<br />

5. A student may not petition for<br />

Credit by Examination of a<br />

course for which the student<br />

has previously received an<br />

evaluative symbol grade (A, B,<br />

C, D, F, P, and NP).<br />

6. The maximum number of<br />

credits allowed for coursework<br />

taken by examination is 30<br />

units.<br />

7. Grades received because of<br />

courses taken for Credit by<br />

Examination shall be recorded<br />

as Pass/No Pass grades on<br />

the permanent transcript<br />

record and shall be designated<br />

as credit earned by<br />

examination.<br />

8. Credit earned by examination<br />

may not be counted toward<br />

eligibility in any activity<br />

program and may not be used<br />

to satisfy the 12 units in<br />

residence required for the<br />

associate degree.<br />

Credit by Examination-<br />

Externally Administered<br />

Examination<br />

1. Advanced Placement<br />

The district will grant three to<br />

ten (3 – <strong>10</strong>) units of elective<br />

credit for an examination score<br />

of three, four or five (3 – 5) in<br />

subjects of the Advanced<br />

Placement (AP) program of the<br />

<strong>College</strong> Entrance Examination<br />

Board. Subject credit, rather<br />

than elective credit, may be<br />

granted upon recommendation<br />

of the department.<br />

2. International<br />

Baccalaureate<br />

The District will grant three to<br />

four (3-4) units of elective<br />
