How Does <strong>Citrus</strong> Recognize High Achievement?<br />

Honors Programs and Recognition<br />

Academic Honors<br />

E<strong>ver</strong>y fall and spring semester a<br />

press release is sent to the local<br />

media, on behalf of each member<br />

of the board of trustees, listing<br />

each student who earned a place<br />

on the President's List and the<br />

Dean's List. Academic honors<br />

criteria are presented in the Evaluating<br />

Academic Progress section.<br />

Achievement Awards<br />

E<strong>ver</strong>y year, <strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong> hosts<br />

its Annual Achievement Awards, a<br />

banquet and awards ceremony in<br />

honor of the college’s top students.<br />

Awards are given to the<br />

Man of the Year and the Woman<br />

of the Year; the Male Athlete of<br />

the Year and the Female Athlete<br />

of the Year; and the <strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

Foundation Transfer Scholarship<br />

recipients. In addition, the<br />

Top <strong>10</strong>0 Students, who have<br />

demonstrated high academic performance<br />

in a given department,<br />

are announced and the college’s<br />

highest academic honor, the Keys<br />

of Knowledge, is awarded to the<br />

<strong>10</strong> students who have achieved<br />

<strong>Citrus</strong>’ highest o<strong>ver</strong>all academic<br />

performance.<br />

Honors at Graduation<br />

<strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong> graduates are recognized<br />

at Commencement for<br />

their permanent membership in<br />

the Alpha Gamma Sigma, Phi<br />

Theta Kappa and Psy Beta honor<br />

societies. In addition, students<br />

are recognized for earning Highest<br />

Honors, 3.80-4.00 GPA; High<br />

Honors, 3.60-3.79 GPA; and Honors,<br />

3.30-3.59 GPA.<br />

Honors Program<br />

The Honors Program is for highly<br />

motivated students and provides<br />

a unique learning environment<br />

emphasizing scholastic excellence.<br />

The objective of the pro-<br />

gram is to better prepare students<br />

for transfer to a four-year<br />

institution and to complete a<br />

bachelor's degree.<br />

To enter the Honors Program, a<br />

student must have a minimum<br />

grade point a<strong>ver</strong>age of 3.25 and<br />

be eligible for English <strong>10</strong>1.<br />

Honors course work enhances a<br />

student’s ability to read, write,<br />

and think critically about current<br />

topics.<br />

Other program benefits include:<br />

UC, CSU and private uni<strong>ver</strong>sity<br />

transfer requirements<br />

• Enhanced transfer<br />

Honor Societies<br />

Alpha Gamma Sigma<br />

Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) is the<br />

honor scholarship society of the<br />

California Community <strong>College</strong>s.<br />

Its purpose is to encourage students<br />

to achieve the highest degree<br />

of development in scholastic,<br />

leadership, and community service<br />

endeavors while attending <strong>Citrus</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>.<br />

AGS membership is renewed each<br />

semester and is based on GPA<br />

and number of units completed.<br />

After completing of three semesters<br />

of membership, students may<br />

be eligible for lifetime or permanent<br />

membership. For additional<br />

Phi Theta Kappa<br />

Phi Theta Kappa, an international<br />

honor society of two-year colleges,<br />

is the world’s largest and most<br />

prestigious honor society serving<br />

two-year colleges. Eligibility is<br />

based on GPA, number of units<br />

completed and membership fees.<br />

The organization offers a myriad<br />

of opportunities for scholarships,<br />

intellectual enrichment and personal<br />

development through programs<br />

based on Phi Theta<br />

Kappa's four hallmarks of Scholarship,<br />

Leadership, Service and Fellowship.<br />

In recent years, Phi Theta Kappa<br />

members from <strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

have achieved prominence in Phi<br />

Theta Kappa at the state level,<br />

through their rankings on the or<br />

ganization's academic teams.<br />

Psi Beta® is the psychology national<br />

honor society for community<br />

and junior colleges. Its<br />

mission is professional development<br />

of psychology students<br />

through promotion and recognition<br />
