Cooperative Education<br />

3 Units Grade or P/NP<br />

Enrollment in a minimum of seven<br />

units of credit including cooperative<br />

education during the regular semester.<br />

During the summer the student must<br />

be enrolled in at least one other<br />

class.<br />

A course designed to assist students in<br />

planning and accomplishing meaningful<br />

learning objectives related to Earth Science<br />

at their place of paid employment or<br />

training sites. This course may be taken<br />

four times. Two hundred twenty-five hours<br />

lab arranged per week.<br />

The English as a Second Language (ESL)<br />

program serves both resident and international<br />

students by providing a comprehensive<br />

selection of courses for those with<br />

limited English proficiency. ESL courses<br />

help students improve their knowledge of<br />

English for both personal and academic<br />

purposes while providing a way for students<br />

gain access to advanced education.<br />

The ESL program also introduces international<br />

students to American culture and<br />

customs while developing the language<br />

skills they need to be successful in an<br />

American academic setting.<br />

English Language Skills II<br />

Prerequisite: Placement is based on<br />

A course for low intermediate English language<br />

students providing practice in the<br />

four language skills; listening, speaking,<br />

reading and writing. Emphasis on production<br />

and comprehension of simple<br />

phrases, basic sentence construction, in-<br />

troductory reading skills and basic vocabulary.<br />

One of three core courses in ESL<br />

Level 2. 54 lecture hours. 9 lab hours<br />

arranged.<br />

designed to help students expand their<br />

vocabulary through oral and written practice<br />

and improve their reading comprehension.<br />

seeking to improve their grammatical<br />

accuracy in writing and speaking.<br />

Intensive review and practice of <strong>ver</strong>b<br />

tenses, noun forms, adjectives, ad<strong>ver</strong>bs<br />

and modals, in a communicative context.<br />

One of three core courses in ESL Level 2.<br />

36 lecture hours, 9 lab hours.<br />

in speaking, increasing written sentence<br />

complexity and developing reading skills.<br />

to help students further expand<br />

comprehension. One of three core courses<br />

in ESL Level 3. 36 lecture hours.<br />
