and contemporary jazz. Jazz and<br />

world music styles along with their influence<br />

The Professional Pianist<br />

2 Units Grade or P/NP<br />

Prerequisite: Audition.<br />

Exploration of collaborative keyboard skills<br />

required of a professional pianist. An intermediate-level<br />

course in classical and popular,<br />

vocal, and instrumental collaboration,<br />

and sight-reading techniques. 36 lecture<br />

Percussion Ensemble I<br />

1 Unit Grade or P/NP<br />

Prerequisite: Audition or MUS 137.<br />

A course for percussionists in the study,<br />

rehearsal, and performance classical,<br />

modern and novelty percussion ensemble<br />

chamber music with a focus on the small<br />

to medium size (4-16) ensemble setting.<br />

Students will explore the rhythmic and stylistic<br />

idiosyncrasies of this group of musical<br />

styles in sectional and full ensemble<br />

settings, with the intention of public performance.<br />

Public performance required.<br />
