Multi-Culture Anti-Bias Classroom<br />

in becoming more effective teachers of individuals<br />

from backgrounds other than<br />

their own. Included is an examination of<br />

concepts of culture, ethnicity, gender, sex,<br />

prejudice and discrimination and an analysis<br />

of the appropriateness of current educational<br />

theories relating to a di<strong>ver</strong>se<br />

society. Emphasis will be given to increasing<br />

understanding of subcultures based on<br />

race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, language,<br />

family background and income.<br />

The development of bias free curriculum<br />

models, methods and philosophies will be<br />

Observing and Recording Behavior<br />

This course will focus on principles of observation,<br />

collection, organization, and<br />

uses of data. Observation as the basis for<br />

evaluation of children's skills and the formulation<br />

of lesson plans will be the basis<br />

of field work assignments. Students will<br />

practice a variety of techniques in a variety<br />

of different settings. Students will organize<br />

data gathered for use in lesson<br />

planning and parent conferencing.<br />

Practicum A in Early Childhood Education<br />

1<strong>22</strong>, 123, 124, 134, 142, 144, 150,<br />

160, 164.<br />

This course is designed to provide the student<br />

with opportunities to identify, develop,<br />

and implement appropriate<br />

activities which support the total growth<br />

of the whole child. Emphasis is placed on<br />

teacher planning and implementation of<br />

curriculum, environment design, documentation<br />

of children's learning, and parent<br />

involvement. Advocacy for children<br />

and families in social policy and critical<br />

evaluation of early childhood<br />

programs/philosophies will be examined.<br />

18 lecture hours, 54 hours field work.<br />
