Débordant de sensibilité et discret tout à la fois, David Wertheimer nous livre,
à travers sa série de photographies ”Androgyne”, ses sentiments et sa vision
de la beauté qui nous entoure. Des mains, des visages, des corps qui envahissent
l’espace, et à chaque fois un univers onirique, empreint de poésie.

Androgyne presents his personal vision of the beauty surrounding us: hands,
faces and bodies intrude upon his dreamlike settings, creating a fascinating,
poetic atmosphere.
Issu d'une famille française, David Wertheimer est né à Londres
dans les années 80. Sa scolarité le mène à Genève et au Royaume
Uni, et sa formation à Madrid, où il travaille une année durant
dans la musique et la mode. De retour à Genève, il étudie les
medias et la communication. De ses voyages, David garde le
goût de la diversité culturelle et un œil artistique particulièrement
aiguisé.
Dès sa plus tendre enfance, il dessine et son souci du détail lui
fait passer des heures à retoucher ses esquisses. Mais la grande
révélation arrive il y a six mois à peine, quand il se découvre une
intimité de tous les instants avec la photographie. Une rencontre
qui change la couleur de son regard.
« Chacun d'entre nous s’est au moins une fois dans sa vie
demandé ce qu’il ressentirait dans le corps d’une personne du
sexe opposé. C’est une question qui touche à l’essence même de
l’humanité. J'aimerais pouvoir, ne serait-ce qu’un instant, me
glisser dans la peau, dans l’esprit d’une femme, pour comprendre
cet être fascinant qui donne la vie.
Je tente de montrer, au fil de ce parcours photographique d'un
homme et d'une femme, leur réincarnation mutuelle dans le
corps du sexe opposé. Chacun renait dans l’univers de l’autre, en
commençant par le plus simple appareil, puis progressivement se
pare des atours vestimentaires de son opposé, jusqu’à s’y
confondre et s’y perdre.
Ce projet est aussi une marque de respect envers ceux qui ne se
retrouvent entièrement dans aucun de ces deux mondes, et qui
préfèrent le flou des contours aux lignes de démarcation
abruptes.
La beauté est partout, il suffit de trouver le bon angle, la bonne
distance pour la percevoir ».
-/ David Wertheimer was born in London, to a French family, in the
1980s. He attended school in Geneva and Britain, and trained in
Madrid where he spent a year working in the fashion and music industries,
before returning to Geneva, where he studied media and communications.
He has travelled widely, retaining a fascination for cultural
diversity, and a keen artistic eye.
He was a prolific draftsman from early childhood, often spending hours
reworking tiny details in his drawings. But just six months ago, his discovery
of the ‘everyday intimacy’ of the art of photography came as a
revelation:
‘We’ve all wondered, at least once in our lives, what it would feel like
to inhabit the body of someone of the opposite sex. It’s a question that
touches the very heart of what it is to be human. I would love to expe-
rience the feeling of being and thinking like a woman, even for a
moment – to try and understand the fascinating creatures who bring life
into the world. This series of photographs of one man and one woman
aims to chart their mutual reincarnation in a body of the opposite sex.
Each is reborn in the other’s world, starting very simply, then gradually
arraying themselves in the clothes and accessories of their opposite
number, until they blend into them, and lose their identity.’
‘The project is also a mark of respect for people who don’t feel they can
find themselves completely in either world, and who prefer blurred
contours rather than clearly demarcated lines.’
Beauty is everywhere, you just have to catch it at the right angle, the
right distance, to perceive it.’
