The World Education Forum (WEF) is to be considered as a part of the
World Social Forum (WSF) process. The (WSF) was established almost a
decade ago in order to provide the global social movement with an open
space for social exchange and active cooperation in search of sustainable
and alternative development models to neo-liberalism.
In the following pages, we introduce a program of over 105 international
and local participative events, the result of an ongoing effort locally
and internationally. These include a variety of expanded conferences,
workshops, exhibitions and heritage and folklore events, stretching from
Gaza to Arageeb, Jaffa, Haifa and Nazareth to Jerusalem, Ramallah, Jenin,
Nablus, Bethlehem, Hebron, Tulkarm and ending in Beirut. Parallel to these
are solidarity activities taking place in different parts of Latin America and
Europe.
These events have been arranged day by day so that a unified program
covers all events in various locations where the forum is to be held,
because this is an international forum with a Palestinian participation. What
distinguishes the Palestinian participation is the idea of unity, therefore the
idea of splitting the program between different geographic localities was
ruled out.
Because the participants of the forum mostly speak four languages (Arabic,
English, French and Spanish), the National Committee was keen to draft the
program in four languages, to include an explanation of the nature of the
activity, the institution upon which it is based, the speakers and the time and
place of activity. We hope that we have been successful in facilitating the
introduction of the participants to the events and activities of the Forum and
apologize for any errors in the program. Even though we have used previous
experiences as our base, every day brings a new situation. It is for that
reason that holding the Forum in Palestine makes this a very unique event.
