POPE SISTO V STATUE
Il Monumento fu eseguito da
Antonio Calcagni (1587) ed è
posta al lato sinistro della Basilica
della Santa Casa. Sisto
V fu un pontefice autoritario
e severo, dedito alla lotta alla
corruzione e al brigantaggio
che caratterizzavano Roma
nel XVI sec. È famoso anche
per le sue opere urbanistiche
di modernizzazione della
città di Roma, fra cui il completamento
della cupola di
San Pietro.
The Monument was made by
Antonio Calcagni (1587) and is
on the left side of the Basilica of
the Holy House. Sisto V was an
authoritarian and severe pontiff,
and was devoted to the struggle
against corruption and banditry
that characterized Rome in the
sixteenth century. He is also famous
for his works of urban modernization
in the city of Rome,
including the completion of St.
Pietro’s dome.

unica nel suo genere in Italia,
con la presenza di decine
di divise militari della Regia
Aeronautica dell’Aeronautica
Militare tutte autentiche
e complete di gradi, acquistate
o frutto di donazioni.
La collocazione del museo
a Loreto è stata fortemente
voluta in considerazione del
fatto che la Madonna di Loreto
è la Patrona di tutti gli
Aviatori.
The Museum has a one-of-a-kind
collection in Italy, with dozens of
military uniforms of the Italian
Air Force Directorate which are
entirely authentic and complete
with degrees; they were all purchased
or donated. There was a
strong will to have this museum
in Loreto because the Madonna
of Loreto is the patron saint of
all Aviators.

venienti da tutte le parti del
mondo sino alla Santa Casa
di Maria a Loreto (foto 4). Tra
le molteplici vie, la Via Lauretana
rimane una delle più
antiche e conosciute, parte
da Roma ramificandosi attraverso
diversi percorsi.
As in the past and in the present,
there are several roads
that lead pilgrims from all over
the world to the Holy House of
Mary in Loreto (photo 4). Of all
the multiple routes, the Via Lauretana
is one of the oldest and
best known, and departs from
Rome and branches off onto different
paths.
La Scala Santa (1941) è stata
usata da sempre per favorire
i pellegrini che giungevano
a Loreto in treno
in quanto via diretta dalla
stazione ferroviaria a Piazza
della Madonna, centro della
città. Inoltre, è solo tramite la
Scala Santa che si accede al
Cimitero Polacco. Il cimitero
è stato costruito nel 1944 ed
è uno dei principali cimiteri
polacchi in Italia, con 1.112
tombe.
The Holy Staircase (1941) has
always been used to encourage
pilgrims to come to Loreto by
train and is a direct route from
the railway station to Madonna
Square in the city centre. In addition,
the Polish Cemetery can
only be reached from the Holy
Staircase. The cemetery was built
in 1944 and is one of the main
Polish cemeteries in Italy with
1,112 graves.
