Cattedrale di
San Leopardo
CATHEDRAL OF SAINT
LEOPARDO
Sul Gomero, punto più alto
della città, si trova il Duomo
di San Leopardo, dedicato
al primo vescovo di Osimo. Il
Duomo è tra i più bei esempi
di architettura romanico-gotica
della regione e vanta un
bellissimo rosone e pregevoli
portali in pietra. La cripta
costruita nel 1191 da Mastro
Filippo rappresenta un ulteriore
capolavoro e in essa,
custoditi in sarcofagi di marmo
magistralmente decorati,
riposano i resti degli antichi
martiri e santi della città.
Adiacenti sono il Battistero,
con la pregevole Fonte Battesimale
in bronzo creata dai
fratelli Jacometti nella prima
metà del XVII secolo (foto 3),
e il Museo Diocesano, che
racchiude dipinti e sculture,
paramenti sacri e reliquiari.
Tra le opere principali del
Museo Diocesano, ricordiamo
la “Madonna con Bambino
e Angeli”, scultura risalente
al XII secolo e il polittico
del Vivarini (foto 5).
The Cathedral of Saint Leopardo
is on Gomero, the highest
point in the city; the Cathedral
is dedicated to the first bishop
of Osimo and is one of the most
beautiful examples of Romanesque-Gothic
architecture in the
region with a beautiful rosette
and refined stone portals. Built
in 1191 by Mastro Filippo, the
crypt is an additional masterpiece
which preserves a masterfully
decorated marble sarcophagus
containing the remains of the
ancient martyrs and saints of
the city. Next to it is the Baptistery
with the prized bronze
Baptismal Font made by the Jacometti
brothers in the first half
of the 17th century (photo 3),
and the Diocesan Museum with
its paintings, sculptures, sacred
vestments and reliquaries. The
Civic Museum’s main works include
the “Madonna with Child
and Angels”, sculpture dating
back to the 12th century and the
Vivarini polyptych. (photo 5)
Basilica di
San Giuseppe
da Copertino
BASILICA OF ST. GIUSEPPE
OF COPERTINO
La chiesa, inizialmente dedicata
a San Francesco, ha
conservato solo esternamente
la semplicità dell’originario
stile romanico, per
trasformarsi profondamente
nella seconda metà del XVIII
secolo in occasione della
canonizzazione di frate Giuseppe.
Conserva una mirabile
“Madonna col Bambino e
Santi” di Solario (1503) mentre
la sagrestia è decorata
con affreschi della scuola di
Giotto. Meta di pellegrinaggio
dei devoti al santo dei
voli e protettore degli studenti,
ne custodisce resti e
reliquie. (foto 4).
The church was originally dedicated
to St. Francesco and has
preserved the simplicity of its
original Romanesque style only
on the exterior; the interior was
deeply transformed in the second
half of the eighteenth century
for the canonization of Friar
Giuseppe. It has a wonderful
“Madonna with Child and Saints”
by Solario (1503), while the sacristy
is decorated with frescoes
by the school of Giotto. It is a
pilgrimage destination for devotees
of the Saint of Flights and
protector of students, as it has
some of his remains and relics.

Chiesa San Marco
ST. MARCO CHURCH
A ridosso dei Tre Archi, porta
orientale della città, si trova
la Chiesa di San Marco
Evangelista. Il fastoso interno
barocco, a navata singola,
custodisce una solenne pala
d’altare raffigurante la “Madonna
del Rosario con San
Domenico e Santa Caterina
da Siena” (foto 7), del Guercino,
e alcuni notevoli affreschi
di Pietro di Domenico
da Montepulciano.
