9. A natureza tem valor não simplesmente por uma questão pragmática – a
nossa sobrevivência –, mas porque foi criada pelo mesmo Deus que nos criou e
nos incumbiu de amar e preservá-la. 102 Não ousemos menosprezar o que Deus
criou. A nossa humanidade é também demonstrada na forma como lidamos com
a Criação. O valor de toda a realidade é-nos comunicado pelo Deus Criador,
o nosso majestoso Senhor. A Criação revela que nada na natureza é inútil. A
encarnação, por sua vez, revela que o homem não é intrinsecamente inútil. 103
Deus nos conferiu valor na criação e na redenção.
abstract
In this article the author, starting from Psalm 8, analyzes some aspects of
God’s majesty as revealed in creation and especially in man, created in God’s
image and likeness. He sustains that in order for man to have a correct view
of God, of himself and of creation in general, it is necessary to begin with a
correct understanding of God as he reveals himself, so that one can respond to
him in worship and obedience. He demonstrates that only by departing from
God it is possible to appreciate the beauty of creation. Although creation is
still awaiting its restoration, it manifests in a majestic way the goodness, wisdom,
and power of God. Only this way one can achieve the right perspective
to approach life and the necessary ability to behave in a way that is coherent
with one’s faith. The genuine knowledge of God must guide our theology,
anthropology, ecology and, consequently, our praxis.
