neglected in our time, should not be seen as an option in the practice of pastoral
ministry, but as a requirement toward a faithful and successful ministry.
But what does it mean to be a disciple? What is discipleship? And what is the
minister’s responsibility in this aspect of Christian life? The article endeavors
to answer these questions in a clear-cut way. Initially it offers a definition of
disciple in light of some biblical passages. Then it clarifies the concept of the
practice of discipleship, pointing also to some biblical doctrines intimately
connected to the topic. The author has in mind to give a small contribution
towards helping ministers reclaim a practice that will help them in pastoral
ministry and in the upbuilding of their flock.
