Primary Article on Participation in the convention on the Rights of the child:
• Article 12: the general principle that children have the right to express their views freely
in matters affecting them and that their views should be given due weight in accordance
with their age and maturity.
The right to participation is also explicitly or implicitly expressed in many other CRC articles:
• Article 5: parental supervision of direction and guidance in accordance with respect for
children’s evolving capacity
• Article 9: non-separation of children from families without the right to make their views
known
