The M199 was originally developed to assay the nutrient
demand of embryonic chicken fibroblasts. But it works
very well with many different animal specie. For example
it is used for vaccine production in virology. For long term
cultures serum must be added.

Ursprünglich wurde das M199 entwickelt um den Nährstoffbedarf
von embryonalen Hühnerfibroblasten zu untersuchen.
Es ist aber für sehr viele Zellen verschiedenster Tierspezies
sehr gut geeignet und vielseitig einsetzbar. Zum
Beispiel nutzt man es in der Virologie zur Impfstoffproduktion.
Für Langzeitkulturen muss jedoch Serum hinzugegeben
werden.
