16I Earthing <strong>of</strong> Metallic Parts and Earth Leakage<br />

Protection<br />

(a) The metallic poles, <strong>the</strong> steel carrier wires and <strong>the</strong> stay wires, should be<br />

permanently and effectively ear<strong>the</strong>d at <strong>the</strong> main earthing terminals at<br />

both ends <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> circuit. To meet this requirement <strong>the</strong> steel carrier wire<br />

may be used as a protective conductor to earth <strong>the</strong> metallic poles and<br />

stay wires provided that <strong>the</strong> electrical continuity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> carrier wire is<br />

durably maintained throughout <strong>the</strong> entire run <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> circuit.<br />

(b) Where an electrical installation is supplied from overhead line system, <strong>the</strong><br />

installation should be protected against earth leakage by residual current<br />

device (see <strong>Code</strong> 11B).<br />
