<strong>Code</strong> 10 NEUTRAL CONDUCTOR PROTECTIVE<br />

DEVICES, ISOLATORS AND SWITCHES<br />

10A Linked Circuit Breakers, Linked Isolators and Linked<br />

Switches<br />

(a) Any linked circuit breaker, linked switch or linked isolator with switched<br />

neutral should be arranged to have <strong>the</strong> neutral pole contact open after<br />

<strong>the</strong> phase pole contacts and should close be<strong>for</strong>e or at <strong>the</strong> same time as<br />

<strong>the</strong> phase pole contacts.<br />

(b) No fuse, circuit breaker, isolator or switch, o<strong>the</strong>r than a linked circuit<br />

breaker, linked isolator or linked switch, should be inserted in a neutral<br />

conductor.<br />

10B Protection <strong>of</strong> Neutral Conductor<br />

A single pole switch should be inserted in <strong>the</strong> phase conductor <strong>of</strong> a single<br />

phase circuit only. No fuse, circuit breaker, isolator or switch, o<strong>the</strong>r than a<br />

linked circuit breaker, linked isolator or linked switch should be inserted in a<br />

neutral conductor.<br />

10C Single-pole Switch in Earthing Conductor<br />

Notwithstanding <strong>Code</strong> 10B, a single-pole switch may be inserted between <strong>the</strong><br />

earthing connection and <strong>the</strong> neutral terminals <strong>of</strong> generators running or likely<br />

to be running in parallel if it is recommended by <strong>the</strong> manufacturer and<br />

adequate precautions have been taken to avoid danger.<br />
