(b) The work piece to be welded should be effectively and electrically<br />

connected to <strong>the</strong> welding return be<strong>for</strong>e welding work is<br />

commenced.<br />

(3) Precautions <strong>for</strong> supply connection<br />

Temporary or permanent supply should not be connected to a circuit<br />

unless:<br />

(a) <strong>the</strong> circuit and its final circuits, if any, are completed and properly<br />

terminated, or<br />

(b) <strong>the</strong> part(s) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> circuit or its final circuits which have not been<br />

completed, are disconnected or isolated with its associated isolating<br />

devices locked <strong>of</strong>f.<br />

(4) Precautions <strong>for</strong> major alteration<br />

Be<strong>for</strong>e a major alteration is carried out on a circuit such as repositioning<br />

<strong>of</strong> a circuit, <strong>the</strong> circuit should be ei<strong>the</strong>r:<br />

(a) disconnected from <strong>the</strong> supply source at <strong>the</strong> distribution board<br />

concerned; or<br />

(b) isolated with <strong>the</strong> isolating device locked <strong>of</strong>f or its operation handle<br />

removed. The key or <strong>the</strong> handle, being non-interchangeable with<br />

any o<strong>the</strong>rs which are used <strong>for</strong> a similar purpose <strong>for</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

installation, should be kept by <strong>the</strong> responsible person.<br />

(5) Use <strong>of</strong> ladder<br />

A ladder made <strong>of</strong> wood or o<strong>the</strong>r non-conductive material should<br />

preferably be used on electrical work. If <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> a metal ladder cannot<br />

be avoided, <strong>the</strong> legs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ladders should be fitted with proper insulated<br />

footing.<br />

(6) Use <strong>of</strong> portable equipment<br />

Portable equipment <strong>of</strong> electrical work should be regularly checked and<br />

maintained, especially <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> connections at <strong>the</strong> plug, to ensure that <strong>the</strong><br />

equipment are in safe working order at all times.<br />

4H Safety Precautions <strong>for</strong> Work on High Voltage<br />

Installation<br />

(1) General<br />

(a) Precautionary measures, including those applicable ones stated in<br />

<strong>Code</strong> 4G, should be taken and <strong>the</strong> procedure <strong>of</strong> work should be<br />

such that no danger to persons or property will occur.<br />
