(iii) controls and switches <strong>of</strong> water heaters and shower pumps<br />

which comply with <strong>the</strong> relevant requirements <strong>of</strong> appropriate<br />

recognised standards;<br />

(iv) switches supplied by SELV at a nominal voltage not exceeding<br />

12 V r.m.s. a.c. or d.c.;<br />

(v) a shaver supply unit complying with subparagraph (e) below.<br />

(e) In a room containing a fixed bath or shower, provision <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

connection <strong>of</strong> an electric shaver, toothbrush or similar light current<br />

appliance can be by means <strong>of</strong> a shaver supply unit complying with<br />

BS EN 61558-2-5 or such a unit incorporated in a luminaire. The<br />

earthing terminal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> shaver supply unit should be connected to<br />

<strong>the</strong> protective conductor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> final circuit from which <strong>the</strong> supply is<br />

derived.<br />

(f ) Surface wiring systems should not employ metallic conduit or<br />

metallic trunking or an exposed metallic cable sheath or an exposed<br />

earthing or bonding conductor.<br />

(g) Lampholders within a distance <strong>of</strong> 2.5 metres from <strong>the</strong> bath or<br />

shower cubicle should be constructed <strong>of</strong> or shrouded in an insulating<br />

material.<br />

(h) No stationary equipment having heating elements which can be<br />

touched should be installed within reach <strong>of</strong> a person using <strong>the</strong> bath<br />

or shower.<br />

(i) No electrical installation or equipment should be installed in <strong>the</strong><br />

interior <strong>of</strong> a bath tub or shower basin.<br />

(j ) In a room containing a fixed bath or shower, <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> socket<br />

outlets should comply with IEC 60364-7-701 and be installed<br />

beyond Zone 2* (i.e. 0.6m away from shower basin or bath tub)<br />

and <strong>the</strong> socket outlets should be protected by an RCD with a<br />

residual operating current not exceeding 30mA. When a circuit<br />

designer who is a Registered Electrical Worker <strong>for</strong> Grade A, B or C<br />

considers it appropriate <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> situations under consideration,<br />

additional safety measures may be used. These measures include <strong>the</strong><br />

use <strong>of</strong> a dedicated circuit or a dedicated circuit protected by an<br />

isolating trans<strong>for</strong>mer.<br />

* Zone dimensions in bathrooms should be referred to Figure<br />

26(1)(a) and 26(1)(b)<br />

(4) Air-conditioners and space heaters<br />

(a) Fixed air-conditioners and space heaters should be fed by separate<br />

radial final circuits controlled by a fuse or miniature circuit breaker at<br />

<strong>the</strong> distribution board.<br />
