Worked Examples <strong>for</strong> Application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CoP<br />

(A) General application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CoP in <strong>the</strong> design <strong>of</strong> wiring<br />

installation <strong>of</strong> a typical dwelling<br />

1. Objective<br />

This worked example shows <strong>the</strong> general application <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CoP in <strong>the</strong><br />

design <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> wiring installation <strong>for</strong> an individual dwelling.<br />

2. Assumed data <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> dwelling<br />

(i) Number <strong>of</strong> bedrooms = 2<br />

(ii) Size <strong>of</strong> each bedroom = 7 m 2<br />

(iii) Size <strong>of</strong> living room = 16 m 2<br />

(iv) Size <strong>of</strong> kitchen = 4.5 m 2<br />

(v) Steel conduit wiring system to be used<br />

3. Final circuits <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> dwelling<br />

(a) The following socket outlets are required (Table 26(1))—<br />

(i) 3 socket outlets <strong>for</strong> each bedroom;<br />

(ii) 7 socket outlets <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> living room; and<br />

(iii) 4 socket outlets <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> kitchen.<br />

(b) O<strong>the</strong>r outlets required—<br />

(i) Three connector units controlled by 20A double-pole switches,<br />

one <strong>for</strong> an air-conditioner installed in <strong>the</strong> living room, two <strong>for</strong><br />

air-conditioners in <strong>the</strong> bedrooms.<br />

(ii) 6 fixed lighting points (1 <strong>for</strong> each bedroom, 2 <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> living<br />

room, 1 <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> kitchen and 1 <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> bathroom).<br />

(c) Final circuits required <strong>for</strong> subparagraphs (a) and (b) are shown<br />

below—<br />

(i) A 30A ring final circuit using 13A socket outlets serving <strong>the</strong><br />

living room and <strong>the</strong> bedrooms.<br />

(ii) A 30A ring final circuit using 13A socket outlets serving <strong>the</strong><br />

kitchen.<br />

(iii) A 20A exclusive radial final circuit <strong>for</strong> an air-conditioner in <strong>the</strong><br />

living room (<strong>Code</strong> 26A(4)).<br />

(iv) A 15A exclusive radial final circuit <strong>for</strong> an air-conditioner in each<br />

bedroom (<strong>Code</strong> 26A(4)).<br />

(v) Two 5A radial final circuits <strong>for</strong> lighting points (one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m is<br />

also <strong>for</strong> door bell).<br />
