Growth rates are most sensitive to changes in adult survival rates: a 10% increase in adult survival results in about an 8% increase in population growth. An equivalent increase in juvenile survival rate results in
adult survival. If there is any possibility of increasing adult survival, it should be given high priority. Second, a low proportion of first time nesters (22%) indicates reduced adult survival. Third, it is not likely that the decline was caused by decreased clutch size.
