The second line of the hymn states:
"[He] was vindicated by the Spirit."

VINDICATED BY THE SPIRIT
While most people did not see His glory since He was despised and rejected by men (Isa
55:3), He met God's demands according to the Spirit of God. Christ's own perfect righteousness
and the validity of His claims were fully established by God. Having received God the Father's
approval at the start of His ministry with the Holy Spirit descending upon Him in the "flesh" (the
weakened human nature in a physical body) He performed miracles, cast out demons, etc. by the
power of the Holy Spirit. Yet it was by means of His resurrection from the dead that the Spirit
fully vindicated the claims of Jesus that He was who He claimed to be—the Son of God:
". . . regarding His Son, who as to His human nature was a descendent of David,
and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the
Son of God by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord” (Ro 1:3-4).
The third line of the hymn states:
"[He] was seen by angels."
SEEN BY ANGELS
This means that all of Jesus' words and actions were clearly witnessed by the angels.
They had an interest in His birth (Lk 2:9-14). They witnessed His triumph over Satan when He
was tempted in the desert (Mt 4:11). Angels addressed the disciples after His ascension (Ac 1:10-
11). They welcomed Him back to heaven (Rev 12:12). They were intensely interested in the
whole program of redemption (1 Pe 1:12). And they witnessed His glorious resurrection, the
crowning act of all His life and ministry on earth (Mt 28:2-7; Mk 16:5-8; Lk 24:4-7; Jn 20:12,
13).
While the best of people's minds were clouded by unbelief, the angels saw clearly the
mission and ministry of Jesus. They knew Him as the glorious Lord.
The fourth line states concerning Jesus:
"[He] was preached among the nations."
