The Anonim Tevârîh-i Al-i Osman mentions that 'Hakk te'âlâ y<strong>in</strong>e nevrûz<br />

günler<strong>in</strong>de ana bir hışm gönderdü; tâ'ûn oldı.' 87<br />

So Yusuf b<strong>in</strong> Abdullah did not follow Yusuf b<strong>in</strong> Musa's orig<strong>in</strong>al text, but adapted<br />

it <strong>in</strong> a way that reflected his own experience: plague is brought <strong>in</strong>to town with <strong>the</strong><br />

caravans. In his real chronology, he resembles Oruç Bey <strong>in</strong> his record<strong>in</strong>gs of<br />

plague outbreaks: he mentions both <strong>the</strong> plague outbreak of 839 88 and <strong>the</strong> epidemic<br />

that obliged Mehmed II to stay <strong>in</strong> Filibe <strong>in</strong> Hicri 871 (1466/67). 89 The similarity of<br />

<strong>the</strong> two texts is such that undoubtedly, Yusuf b<strong>in</strong> Abdullah ei<strong>the</strong>r copied from<br />

Oruç Bey's work or <strong>the</strong> two works have a common precursor. The author does not<br />

mention <strong>the</strong> place of <strong>the</strong> outbreak, but as <strong>the</strong> leav<strong>in</strong>g of Murad II to <strong>the</strong> Keşürlük<br />

yayla is l<strong>in</strong>ked to <strong>the</strong> outbreak, it must have struck Edirne. 90<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ally, we have for <strong>the</strong> first time a testimony of a plague outbreak <strong>in</strong> Arabia, Iran<br />

and Rumelia <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> year 897, which an author confirms to have heard about<br />

himself. 91 It is unfortunate that <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation he gives perta<strong>in</strong>s only to <strong>the</strong><br />

situation <strong>in</strong> Cairo, and <strong>in</strong> spite of his assurances that his <strong>in</strong>formant is utterly<br />

trustworthy, a total casualty figure of seven hundred seventy three thousand seems<br />

a little steep. 92<br />
