Description<br />

Hole dug to reach the water table, surrounded<br />

by a pareto ('neck') which is<br />

covered by a drystone roof called a<br />

capelleta (small dome).<br />

Use<br />

Tocollect water for human and animal<br />

consumption.<br />

Site<br />

Isolated structure on a mountainous<br />

flat area on a terraced hillside of olive<br />

groves.<br />

Roofing<br />

The neck has a capelleta, a roof with<br />

lintels made by putting stone slabs on<br />

top of each other. The pulley was<br />

hung from a hook embedded into the<br />

internal slab which tops off the capelleta.<br />

Facings<br />

The interior facing of the hole is made<br />

of slightly dressed stone with rubble<br />

behind it and reaches a depth of 3m<br />

by 97 cm in diameter. The neck and<br />

the capelleta reach an height of 1.90<br />

m above ground level and are made<br />

of dressed stone laid flat.<br />

Op<strong>en</strong>ings<br />

There is an op<strong>en</strong>ing in the capelleta<br />

with a lintel which gives access to the<br />

water. The op<strong>en</strong>ing is made of two<br />

stone slabs which form the lintel and<br />

the threshold while the jambs are<br />

made of slabs placed one on top of<br />

the other.<br />
