Description<br />

Excess stone on farmland made controlled<br />

storage necessary so as to<br />

lose as little land as possible. If building<br />

boundary walls or <strong>sec</strong>ondary<br />

facings was not <strong>en</strong>ough to get rid of<br />

this excess, structures were built<br />

solely to be used as storage space for<br />

the stones. By popular tradition, such<br />

structures wh<strong>en</strong> round or irregularshaped<br />

were called clapers, while<br />

longer ones whether rectangular or<br />

elliptical were called ga/eres. Some of<br />

the clapers were also used for trapping<br />

as they had ho<strong>les</strong> built into them<br />

in which rabbits would take refuge<br />

(llorigueres)<br />

Long structure used for storing stones.<br />

It consists of a wall that bounds a<br />

rectangular area completely full of stones.<br />

Site<br />

Flat, dry farming, mixed herbaceous<br />

and tree crop field.<br />

Ground Plan<br />

Rectangular - 47.50 m long by 3.05 m<br />

wide.<br />

Facings<br />

Single dressed stone facing 1.15 m<br />

high and crowned with an upper<br />

course. The stone stored inside is<br />

lower than the height of the facing.<br />

Dressed rough stone.<br />

Accessory Items<br />

It has no accessory items due to the<br />

simplicity of its construction and use.<br />

Claper<br />

Round structure used for storing<br />

stone.<br />

Site<br />

Flat cultivated field.<br />

Ground Plan<br />

Circular, 4.90 m in diameter.<br />

Facings<br />

Single, barely dressed stone facing<br />

1.55 m high and crowned with an<br />

upper row. The stone stored inside is<br />

higher than the facing and gives the<br />

claper a maximum height of 2.15<br />

metres.<br />

Dressed rough stone.<br />
