FUEL FROM WATER
2012
SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLE INVOLVED: 1.PEM (Polymer
Electrolyte Membrane)Electrolyzer: Electrolysis involves
simply running an electrical current obtained from solar
cell through distilled water splitting the H2O into H2 &
O2. The produced hydrogen gas is then compressed and
stored for further use.
2.PEM Fuel cell:PEM fuel cells use oxygen from the air
and above pressurized hydrogen to create electricity, heat
and water (steam) as byproducts. The above generated
electricity then powers the electric motor, which in turn
drives the front wheels of a car.
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION:
In our model, (1) Distilled Water (3) Solar cell (4) PEM
Electrolyser (5) PEM Fuel Cell (6) D.C.Motor (7) Toy Car
(8) Plastic H2 storage tank (instead of compressed metal
tank) (9) Plastic O2 storage tank ( instead of air pump)
WORKING: 1st step: By passing electricity through
distilled water from solar cell in a PEM Electrolyser ,we
get pure hydrogen &oxygen gas.
2nd step: Hydrogen gas can be stored in a Pressurized tank
with the help of a compressor in the fuel station and
Oxygen gas produced is released into the atmosphere.
3rd step: In a car refilling of hydrogen gas in the H2
storage tank will be done from the fuel station.
4th step:Hydrogen & oxygen gas(from air by air pump )
passed through fuel cell produce electricity. The
electricity then powers the electric motor, which in turn
drives the front wheels. Water vapour and heat are the
only by products of the above process .
