MANGROVE - BLESSING
FOR ENVIRONMENT
2012
The scientific principle Mangroves produce negatively
geotropic and positively phototropic aerial roots from their
under grounds roots. These roots are spongy long and
possess a large number of lenticels. Sufficient oxygen
reaches the under ground root system through these
lenticels.
Description: (i) Materials used for the construction:
Mangrove Plants, Breathing roots, seeds, soil, mud, salt,
map of Gujarat, photograph and charts, laptop, fodder,
tray, bucket, water etc.
(ii )Construction: Take 5-10 germinated seeds of mangrove
(Avicenia marina)-drop it vertically straight into the
muds,it becomes enchord. Leteral roots develop and
proper establishment is achieved. After few days
breathing root also developed.
Now take plywood 4”x 4”.Draw a map of Gujarat on it.
Show coastline on the map and mangrove plantation.
