Oceans cover almost three fourth part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earth's<br />

surface. The oceans water, <strong>the</strong> air above <strong>the</strong> oceans and<br />

<strong>the</strong> land beneath <strong>the</strong>m contains enormous energy<br />

resources. This model shows how oceans can fulfill <strong>the</strong><br />

basic needs <strong>of</strong> energy, water, food for <strong>the</strong> survival <strong>of</strong><br />

human being.<br />

Energy: This model shows three ways <strong>of</strong> generating<br />

electricity from <strong>the</strong> tides namely, Tidal Stream Generator,<br />

Barrage and a Reef and also demonstrates two ways <strong>of</strong><br />

producing electricity from <strong>the</strong> waves namely, i-wave and<br />

Oyster. We are suggesting i-wave farm which will harness<br />

energy not only from <strong>the</strong> waves but also from <strong>the</strong> strong<br />

wind currents.<br />

Water: Fresh water is only 2.75% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total water<br />

available on earth, so it is important to obtain potable<br />

water from sea. The process <strong>of</strong> Desalination is depicted in<br />

this model. We are suggesting 'Green House Salt Framing',<br />

a new way <strong>of</strong> obtaining potable water by building a green<br />

house over a salt farm. This water can be utilized for<br />

agriculture.<br />

Food: Seawater Farming proposes a radically different<br />

method <strong>of</strong> agriculture that does not depend on freshwater<br />

and thus relieves <strong>the</strong> existing constraint on <strong>the</strong> current<br />

freshwater body. The entire process <strong>of</strong> channelizing sea<br />

water from sea to fish farms and <strong>the</strong>n to mangrove farms,<br />

is shown through <strong>the</strong> model. Water evaporation from vaststretches<br />

<strong>of</strong> seawater farm will increase humidity and<br />

rainfalls, bringing desirable conditions for o<strong>the</strong>r economic<br />

activities.<br />

The long-term objective <strong>of</strong> this model is to transform <strong>the</strong><br />

coastal region through sustainable and natural means,<br />

making <strong>the</strong>m self reliant or may be surplus in terms <strong>of</strong><br />

energy, fresh water and food.<br />
