CHEMICAL SNOW FALL
Aim: Chemical Snow Fall.
Requirement: Close container, Chinadish, Stones, Burner,
Tripoid stand, Phthalic acid, Matchstick etc.
Principle: It is based on sublimation process.
Theory: Sublimation is the process in which solid
substance directly changes into vapours. In this project
phthalic acid is used.
Chemical formula of phthalic acid is C H (COOH) and

chemical reaction takes place in this process as indicated
in the figure.
Construction:
Working: When we heat phthalic acid in chinadish it
starts to change into vapours. When vapours of phthalic
acid falling on stone placed in closed container, appear
like snow.
Application: (i) It is used to create artificial condition of
snow fall in those areas where it is not possible by nature.
(ii) It is used for decoration purpose in parties and other
programmes.
