MARYLAND RULES OF PROCEDURE TITLE 16 - COURTS, JUDGES, AND ATTORNEYS CHAPTER 800 - MISCELLANEOUS ADD new Rule 16-822, as follows: Rule 16-822. SCHEDULING (a) Clerk’s Responsibilities A judge who has agreed to perform a marriage ceremony shall notify the clerk of the circuit court for the county in which the ceremony is to take place. The clerk is responsible for recording and reporting the marriage. The parties are responsible for making all other arrangements. Committee note: Except for communications necessary to determine a judge’s willingness and availability to perform the ceremony, a judge’s staff should not be used to make arrangements for a marriage ceremony. (b) Non-Interference with Court Functions Ceremonies shall be scheduled so as not to interfere with the prompt disposition of cases and other judicial and administrative duties of the judge, and the use of public resources shall be reasonable and consistent with the security of the courthouse. (c) Place of Ceremony A judge may perform a marriage ceremony at a location other than in a Courthouse. (d) Time of Ceremony A judge may perform a marriage ceremony at any time, -286-
