CHAPTER 800 - MISCELLANEOUS<br />

ADD new Rule 16-822, as follows:<br />

Rule 16-822. SCHEDULING<br />

(a) Clerk’s Responsibilities<br />

A judge who has agreed to perform a marriage ceremony<br />

shall notify the clerk of the circuit court for the county in<br />

which the ceremony is to take place. The clerk is responsible<br />

for recording <strong>and</strong> reporting the marriage. The parties are<br />

responsible for making all other arrangements.<br />

Committee note: Except for communications necessary to determine<br />

a judge’s willingness <strong>and</strong> availability to perform the ceremony, a<br />

judge’s staff should not be used to make arrangements for a<br />

marriage ceremony.<br />

(b) Non-Interference with Court Functions<br />

Ceremonies shall be scheduled so as not to interfere with<br />

the prompt disposition of cases <strong>and</strong> other judicial <strong>and</strong><br />

administrative duties of the judge, <strong>and</strong> the use of public<br />

resources shall be reasonable <strong>and</strong> consistent with the security of<br />

the courthouse.<br />

(c) Place of Ceremony<br />

A judge may perform a marriage ceremony at a location<br />

other than in a Courthouse.<br />

(d) Time of Ceremony<br />

A judge may perform a marriage ceremony at any time,<br />
