NOTICE TO PETITIONER<br />

Any individual who knowingly provides false information in a<br />

Petition for Protection <strong>and</strong> Temporary Peace Order is guilty of a<br />

misdemeanor <strong>and</strong> on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding<br />

$1,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 90 days or both.<br />

REPORTER’S NOTE<br />

The proposed amendment to Rule 3-731 conforms the Rule to<br />

Chapters 587 <strong>and</strong> 235 (HB 6 <strong>and</strong> HB 663), Acts of 2002, the<br />

provisions of which are contingent on ratification by the voters<br />

in the November 2002 election. The constitutional amendment <strong>and</strong><br />

amendments to Code, Courts Article, Title 3, Subtitle 15, allow a<br />

District Court Commissioner to issue an “interim peace order”<br />

under certain circumstances when the District Court clerk’s office<br />

is not open for business. Only a judge may issue a “temporary<br />
