(ii) In coastal Andhra, food grains have contributed around 80% <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Gross Cropped Area (GCA). In Telangana, this proportion has reduced over time,<br />

from 80% to around 70%. In Rayalaseema region, the proportion has markedly<br />

reduced from around 70% in 1955-56 to around 40% currently.<br />

The food grain productivity has been increasing over the last 55 years but<br />

is much higher in coastal Andhra, as compared with Rayalaseema and<br />

Telangana.<br />

(i) While agriculture is still the primary occupation for farmers in Andhra<br />

Pradesh, its importance is reducing comparatively due to the development <strong>of</strong><br />

other sectors. The importance <strong>of</strong> fisheries, animal husbandry, etc., which are<br />

allied to agriculture, has increased. The region wise contribution <strong>of</strong> agriculture,<br />

industry and services to Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP) is given below:<br />
