4.18.01 From the analysis <strong>of</strong> various power sector indicators, it is seen that<br />

power sector in Telangana region has progressed very well vis-a-vis the other<br />

two regions and that there has not been any discrimination in Telangana,<br />

Rayalaseema or coastal Andhra regions by the Andhra Pradesh Government or<br />

any organization involved in generation, transmission or distribution <strong>of</strong> electricity.<br />

4.18.02 Unlike coastal Andhra, Telangana has rich coal reserves, while<br />

coastal Andhra area has 1000 km <strong>of</strong> coastal belt, which is rich in oil and gas. In<br />

this respect, Rayalaseema region is poorly endowed. Each area has to seek<br />

development taking into account the inherent natural resources and facilities.<br />

The thermal, hydel and gas based generation installed capacity in the three<br />

regions has developed on sound technical basis after thorough scrutiny <strong>of</strong> the<br />

proposals by a Central agency i.e. Central Electricity Authority, <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Power,<br />

Government <strong>of</strong> India. The Krishna and Godavari river waters are being utilized for<br />

the three regions both for irrigation and hydro power generation.<br />

4.18.03 APSEB/APgenco is responsible for development <strong>of</strong> power in the<br />

state and has been impartial in selecting the power projects sites. The sites have<br />

been selected after ensuring availability <strong>of</strong> sufficient water and fuels required for<br />

generation.<br />

4.18.04 The consumption <strong>of</strong> electricity in Telangana region is the highest as<br />

compared to other regions, indicating the prosperous status <strong>of</strong> the region. This<br />

also indicates that electricity is available to the people <strong>of</strong> Telangana as per their<br />

requirements through a very strong network <strong>of</strong> transmission and distribution<br />

network. The people <strong>of</strong> Telangana are consuming more electricity and also<br />

getting more subsidies towards higher agricultural consumption as compared to<br />

other regions.<br />

4.18.05 Out <strong>of</strong> total amount <strong>of</strong> Rs. 3787.49 crores <strong>of</strong> subsidy given during<br />

2009-10 by the Government <strong>of</strong> AP for supply <strong>of</strong> free power to farmers, an<br />
