What are the proposals?
• A windfarm of about 40 megawatt (MW) capacity, expected to have around
19 turbines of about 125 metres (m) height to blade tip.
• Three anemometer masts to measure wind speed.
• A permanent access route into the site from the B764 road.
• Access tracks and underground cabling within the site.
• An electrical sub-station.
• A site office and store (which may be the same building).
• Associated communications and other infrastructure.
Where will it be?
• West of Eaglesham, some eight kilometres south west of Glasgow, between
the M77 and the B764 (NGR NS 527 507).
Who is the project team?
• Falck Renewables plc (the funder for the project) and Coriolis Energy
LLP (the developer) are taking the project forward in partnership with a
consortium of local farmers.
• Natural Capital Ltd environmental and sustainability consultants supported by
a team of specialists.
• Grontmij and Donaldson Associates providing technical and engineering
expertise.
Why is the windfarm needed?
• To contribute to Scotland’s energy requirements in an environmentally
responsible way.
Why is it a good site?
• It is in the Central Belt near to where energy needs in Scotland are greatest.
• Wind speeds are expected to be sufficient.
• Two suitable grid connection points are available close to the site.
• The windfarm can be designed to fit in with the windfarm at Whitelee.
What has been done to date?
• Consultation with a range of stakeholders, Councils and statutory bodies to
better understand the area and focus the required work.
(and relevant Community Councils) on the approach to pre-application
consultations. Site surveys and studies including wildlife surveys.
What happens next?
• The project team is undertaking an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
which is a process used to understand the potential significant environmental
effects arising from the windfarm development and to identify measures to
avoid, reduce and remedy these.
• The EIA will cover: planning and policy, traffic and access, land use, geology
and soils, water quality and drainage, landscape and visual impacts, ecology,
cultural heritage, noise and vibration, air quality, shadow flicker and icing,
telecommunications and aviation and socio economic effects.
• Ongoing engineering studies and design development.
• Ongoing consultation with the local community and key stakeholders
(including a public exhibition in October 2009).
• Submission of a planning application to the Council. This is likely to be in
early 2010.
How you can contribute?
• By bringing any relevant information to our attention as soon as possible.
