Kitty Vincke
(1996), Michelangelo Antonioni (1998), y
Pedro Almodóvar (1998). Su fallecimiento
representa una enorme pérdida para el
equipo del museo, tanto en lo profesional
como en lo personal.
Kitty Vincke
(1961 – 1999)
Following a severe illness Dr. Kitty Vincke, the director of the
Deutsches Filmmuseum’s cinema, passed away at the age of 38. After
studying art history, Romance languages and literatures, and film
studies in Florence, Munich, and Frankfurt a. M., Kitty Vincke came
to the museum as an intern in 1991. In 1992 and 1993 she
completed a Volontariat at the museum. During this time she was
involved in various exhibitions; in particular, she was responsible for
an exhibition of Italian silent film posters. In 1994 Kitty Vincke took
over the directorship of the cinema. From the very beginning, her
programming selection was shaped by the desire to open the cinema
to a wide range of social groups and to offer them a forum. To
emphasize this point: within this context, she initiated the festivals
“Africa Alive”, which will take place next year for the sixth time, and
also “Verso Sud - neues italienisches Kino”, which had its fifth
anniversary this past November. Kitty Vincke was undoubtedly one
of the leading experts in African and Italian cinema.
In addition to her involvement with the Filmmuseum, she completed
her doctoral studies in art history at the J.W.G. University in
Frankfurt in 1995, and she was active thereafter as a lecturer in film
history in Frankfurt and Marburg. The connection between film and
art was always a significant matter for her. It was she who
conceptualized the cinema’s important retrospectives of Pier Paolo
Pasolini (1996), Michelangelo Antonioni (1998), and Pedro
Almodóvar (1998). Her amiability and her interest in people and
their histories made the cinema a place of genuine interaction. The
cinema’s widely varied and well respected programme is greatly
indebted to her expertise and skill, as well as to her personality. The
death of Dr. Kitty Vincke is an enormous personal and professional
loss for the Deutsches Filmmuseum.
