• Summary: Multi-Purpose Food (MPF) showed good<br />
results in feeding tests with Iranian school students,<br />
according to Dr. A.M. Setayesh, author <strong>of</strong> a report on the<br />
subject.<br />
“MPF, which contains 50% vegetable protein balanced<br />
with the required vitamins <strong>and</strong> minerals, is produced by<br />
[sic, <strong>for</strong>] the Meals <strong>for</strong> Millions Foundation in Cali<strong>for</strong>nia.<br />
Students on the test received 20 grams <strong>of</strong> MPF mixed with<br />
water daily.<br />
“There is considerable malnutrition in Iran, partly due<br />
to a shortage <strong>of</strong> food but in large part due to ignorance <strong>of</strong><br />
what constitutes a good diet.”<br />

a blend <strong>of</strong> 70 parts <strong>of</strong> wheat flour <strong>and</strong> 30 parts <strong>of</strong> processed<br />
full-fat <strong>soy</strong>bean flour, <strong>for</strong>tified with vitamins <strong>and</strong> minerals.<br />
It contains about 22.5% protein. “The PER <strong>of</strong> the food at<br />
10% protein level was 1.93. Addition <strong>of</strong> methionine<br />
significantly increased the PER to 2.40, while addition <strong>of</strong> a<br />
mixture <strong>of</strong> methionine, threonine <strong>and</strong> lysine further<br />
increased the PER to 2.91 as compared with 3.0 <strong>for</strong> milk<br />
