Other recent large grants <strong>of</strong> $100,000 or more are<br />

shown in the mini annual report in the section titled “Donor<br />

spotlight.” The Gates grant was much more than $1 million.<br />

Master Card Foundation is more than $1 million; they are<br />

funding a new “Advancing Integrated Micr<strong>of</strong>inance <strong>for</strong><br />

Youth” (AIM Youth)–targeting young men <strong>and</strong> women ages<br />

13-24 <strong>and</strong> teaching them a combination <strong>of</strong> financial<br />

education + financial services (access to saving accounts,<br />

how to budget money, what do you want vs. what do you<br />

need).<br />

Chris’ dream (after she retires) is to organize <strong>and</strong><br />

preserve FFH’s rich <strong>history</strong>.<br />

Note: At the beginning <strong>of</strong> this interview, in the interest<br />

<strong>of</strong> full disclosure, Chris Dodson explained that she is<br />

married to Christopher Dun<strong>for</strong>d, PhD–who is known<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionally in the development community as “Chris<br />

Dun<strong>for</strong>d.”<br />

In 1980 Christopher <strong>and</strong> Chris first met.<br />

1982 Jan.–Chris was hired as Office Manager, Tucson,<br />

Arizona Program <strong>of</strong> Meals <strong>for</strong> Millions/Freedom <strong>from</strong><br />

Hunger Foundation.<br />

1984 Aug.–He was first hired in Arizona as the<br />

Program Director <strong>for</strong> the Arizona program.<br />

1984 Oct.–Christopher <strong>and</strong> Chris were married.<br />

1986 Jan.–Both transferred to Davis, Cali<strong>for</strong>nia (FFH’s<br />

International <strong>Center</strong>); he as Program Director, U.S.<br />

1991 Feb. 1–Christopher became president <strong>of</strong> Freedom<br />

<strong>from</strong> Hunger (at Davis).<br />

Thomas R. McBurney became chair, board <strong>of</strong> trustees,<br />

in 1991, the same year Christopher Dun<strong>for</strong>d became<br />

president <strong>of</strong> Freedom <strong>from</strong> Hunger. Tom's term as chair<br />

expired in Nov. 1999, but he remained on as a trustee until<br />

Nov. 2005, when his term expired. He returned as a trustee<br />

in Nov. 2007 until his death in March 2009.<br />
