any student whose home language is not English, whether or not<br />

the student has graduated from an English-speaking, postsecondary<br />

institution, must submit a score <strong>of</strong> at least 100 on the iBT, 7 on the<br />

IELTS, 68 on the PTE Academic or 600 on the <strong>Florida</strong> Tech TOEFL,<br />

as well as a score <strong>of</strong> at least 45 on the Test <strong>of</strong> Spoken English (TSE)<br />

to be considered for a teaching assistantship. An iBT score <strong>of</strong> at least<br />

79, an IELTS score <strong>of</strong> at least 6.5, a PTE Academic score <strong>of</strong> at least<br />

58 or a <strong>Florida</strong> Tech TOEFL score <strong>of</strong> at least 550 must be submitted<br />

for a research assistantship.<br />

The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts degree program in humanities is an interdisciplinary<br />

program <strong>of</strong> liberal studies with an emphasis on literature, history,<br />

philosophy and the fine arts. As a study <strong>of</strong> the thoughts, actions<br />

and values <strong>of</strong> human beings, along with a comprehensive background<br />

in science, mathematics and computers, the humanities major has<br />

broad applicability. As a result <strong>of</strong> the ample allotment <strong>of</strong> electives,<br />

students may adapt the program to individual needs and interests.<br />

The major prepares graduates for a wide variety <strong>of</strong> careers, including<br />

teaching, law, government service, the military and editing. Students<br />

wishing to pursue graduate study will be prepared to enter programs<br />

in their respective areas <strong>of</strong> concentration, such as history, literature,<br />

philosophy or law.<br />

The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Humanities – Prelaw <strong>of</strong>fers the courses needed<br />

to meet the entrance requirements <strong>of</strong> law schools. Undergraduates<br />

selecting this degree program are able to gain a thorough grounding<br />

in a variety <strong>of</strong> academic disciplines applicable to graduate study in<br />

law. Students work with the prelaw advisor to select a course <strong>of</strong> study<br />

customized for their own needs and interests. A student contemplating<br />

admission to a law school should consult the prelaw advisor early<br />

in the program.<br />
