Center for Ethics and Leadership<br />

Amitabh Dutta, Ph.D., Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, Director. The center promotes<br />

the practice <strong>of</strong> ethical behavior and effective leadership through<br />

activities providing a forum for research, discussion and better understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> ethics and leadership among all stakeholders in society. The<br />

objectives <strong>of</strong> the center are achieved by organizing and participating<br />

in events such as conferences, guest speaker appearances, publishing<br />

written materials and student competitions. The center seeks to<br />

continually promote the importance <strong>of</strong> ethical behavior and leadership<br />

Mission Statement<br />

The Department <strong>of</strong> Extended Studies is an integral academic unit <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Florida</strong> Tech that delivers graduate programs in response to evolving<br />

societal needs to elevate the knowledge capacity <strong>of</strong> a global society.<br />

Its purpose is to serve the public good through enhancing diversity and<br />

knowledge to adult learners in the global workforce for all branches<br />

<strong>of</strong> foreign and military services, local and federal governments, business<br />

and industry.<br />

Overview<br />

Degrees <strong>of</strong>fered <strong>of</strong>f-campus through extended studies provide a number<br />

<strong>of</strong> specialized master’s degrees in addition to the master <strong>of</strong> business<br />

administration, which has oversight through the college. Extended<br />

studies students may also take some <strong>of</strong> their courses online through<br />

the Virtual Site.<br />

Extended Studies began in August 1972 as “Off-Campus Programs,”<br />

when 42 students enrolled in a master’s degree program in electrical<br />

engineering at the Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, Maryland.<br />

From that modest beginning, the graduate programs have grown<br />

substantially with students enrolled in over 30 degree programs.<br />

Extended studies programs that benefit employees <strong>of</strong> industry were<br />

added in 1976 when in-plant courses started with several firms and<br />
