This post-baccalaureate program is for individuals with bachelor’s<br />

degrees in content areas, who are either current teachers with 3-year<br />

temporary teaching certificates or are planning to enter the teaching<br />

field. The program is designed to help students earn an advanced degree<br />

while also completing coursework that can lead to <strong>Florida</strong> teacher<br />

certification. It consists <strong>of</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong> 30 graduate credit hours.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

An applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college<br />

or university in mathematics or science, or in an area in which<br />

state certification is sought.<br />

Degree Requirements<br />

A minimum grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.0 must be maintained throughout<br />

the program. Students must also satisfy a field experience requirement<br />

that can be met either by a concurrent part- or full-time teaching<br />

position or by completing concurrent field experience courses<br />

taken either at <strong>Florida</strong> Tech or another accredited university. Students<br />

must pass the Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Education <strong>Florida</strong> Teacher Certification<br />

Examination and an oral final program examination, which is given<br />

in the last semester <strong>of</strong> enrollment.<br />

The graduate certificate is for students seeking an alternative route<br />

to pr<strong>of</strong>essional certification in <strong>Florida</strong>. This certificate program is a<br />

subset <strong>of</strong> the MAT degree program and is designed for individuals<br />

who hold bachelor’s degrees in content areas and are current teachers<br />

with 3-year temporary teaching certificates. It consists <strong>of</strong> six graduate<br />

courses that prepare teachers for state certification. The certificate may<br />

be completed in two regular terms and a summer session. The credit<br />

hours may be applied within five years <strong>of</strong> completion to the MAT.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

An applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or science,<br />

or in an area in which state certification is sought, from an<br />

accredited college or university, and be currently teaching with temporary<br />

certification.<br />

The Graduate Certificate requires passing the six courses (18 credit<br />

hours) listed below with a grade point average <strong>of</strong> at least 3.0. All<br />

This degree program is designed for working pr<strong>of</strong>essionals who seek<br />

to further their education and enhance their teaching practice. It<br />

is appropriate for teachers at any grade level and in any subject<br />

matter area. This program is designed to help teachers expand their<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> relevant educational foundations, theory, method, and<br />

research, as well as their ability to relate and apply these to teaching<br />

and schooling practices.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

The master’s program is designed for individuals who already hold a<br />

bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college <strong>of</strong> university.<br />

Applicants should have a GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 or better for regular admission<br />

and should submit a résumé, statement <strong>of</strong> objectives and three letters<br />

<strong>of</strong> recommendation.<br />

Degree Requirements<br />

The degree <strong>of</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Education is conferred on students who have<br />

successfully completed 30 credit hours as specified in an approved<br />

program plan, with a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> at least 3.0, and who have<br />

received a passing grade on the final program oral examination taken<br />

during the last semester <strong>of</strong> registration.
