Graduates specializing in strategic communication–business typically<br />

find employment in public relations, marketing, publications research,<br />

advertising, copywriting, editing, training and development, public<br />

information or customer relations. Graduates specializing in strategic<br />

communication–science and technology are typically employed as<br />

writers and editors for technical or scientific publications or organizations,<br />

documentation designers, technical publications specialists,<br />

instructional designers or proposal writers.<br />

Degree Requirements<br />

Candidates for the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Communication require<br />

a total <strong>of</strong> 121 credit hours for graduation. On reaching the junior<br />

year, candidates must choose an area <strong>of</strong> concentration and include<br />

21 credit hours <strong>of</strong> specialized coursework. The composition <strong>of</strong> the<br />

The military science option prepares <strong>Florida</strong> Tech Army ROTC cadets<br />

to serve as commissioned <strong>of</strong>ficers in the United States Army, Army<br />

Reserve and Army National Guard. Technical, scientific and military<br />

studies are incorporated into the curriculum with emphasis on<br />

applied leadership and problem-solving skills. Current freshmen and<br />

sophomores between their second and third years who have no prior<br />

military service and who seek an Army ROTC scholarship may attend<br />

the 32-day Leader’s Training Course that provides basic military and<br />

problem-solving skills combined with physical training. Students incur<br />

no service commitment on completion <strong>of</strong> this course.<br />

Degree Requirements<br />

The bachelor’s degree in communication, military science option, is<br />

earned by satisfying the degree requirements listed for the bachelor’s<br />

degree in communication and completing the advanced military science<br />

program as described below and previously in this section under<br />

“Military Science.” All military science (MSC) courses taken are applicable<br />

to this degree, with up to 18 credit hours applied toward degree<br />

requirements including 12 free elective credits and six humanities<br />

elective credit hours.<br />

Students are strongly encouraged to take Special Topics in History<br />

(HUM 3385) as a humanities elective, which counts toward both the<br />

military science and humanities requirements.<br />

On reaching the junior year, candidates must choose an area <strong>of</strong> concentration<br />

and include 21 credit hours <strong>of</strong> specialized coursework.<br />
