PSY 5420 ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE AND TRANSFORMATION (3 credits).<br />

Overviews the incremental evolutionary and discontinuous aspects <strong>of</strong> organizational<br />

change. In addition to reviewing modern transformational theories, gives practical<br />

experience in conducting organizational change interventions.<br />

PSY 5421 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING (3 credits). Examines the methods and applications<br />

<strong>of</strong> training in industry from an integrated systems approach.<br />

PSY 5422 GROUP AND TEAM DEVELOPMENT (3 credits). Surveys major<br />

interventions associated with group and team development within organizations.<br />

Interventions include group and team assessment, creative problem solving, decision<br />

making, resolving conflicts and management by objectives.<br />

PSY 5430 EMOTIONS IN THE WORKPLACE (3 credits). Covers theory and<br />

research on emotions in the workplace. Example topics include the nature <strong>of</strong><br />

emotional display rules, the influence <strong>of</strong> emotions on job attitudes, frameworks<br />

<strong>of</strong> emotional intelligence, and the strategies that employees use to regulate their<br />

emotional displays at work. (Requirement: Program director approval.)<br />

PSY 5431 WORK MOTIVATION (3 credits). Focuses on major theoretical issues<br />

and applications related to motivation in organizations. (Requirement: Department<br />

head approval.)<br />

PSY 5432 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY (3 credits). Examines<br />

research and theory related to the physical, mental and social well-being <strong>of</strong> employees.<br />

Includes work-family balance, occupational stress, job-related burnout, and<br />

workplace safety issues and violence.<br />

PSY 5492 CURRENT TOPICS IN I/O PSYCHOLOGY (1 credit). Focuses on<br />

current practice and research by visiting faculty in the areas <strong>of</strong> industrial/organizational<br />

psychology, including job analysis, stress and outplacement counseling.<br />

PSY 5496 PRACTICUM IN I/O PSYCHOLOGY (1-6 credits). Supervised work in<br />

appropriate I/O setting. (Requirement: Program chair approval.)<br />

PSY 5501 PERSONALITY AND PSYCHOTHERAPY (3 credits). Surveys and evaluates<br />

the major theories <strong>of</strong> personality and psychotherapy with a didactic introduction<br />

to the basic principles <strong>of</strong> case conceptualization and psychological treatment.<br />

PSY 5502 PSYCHOPATHOLOGY (3 credits). Introduces the classification and<br />

diagnosis <strong>of</strong> the major forms <strong>of</strong> behavioral and mental pathology and their relationship<br />

to models <strong>of</strong> psychotherapy. Prerequisites: PSY 5501.<br />

PSY 5511 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY (3 credits). The role <strong>of</strong> drugs<br />

in the modification <strong>of</strong> behavior. Examines sites <strong>of</strong> drug action, the systems affected<br />

and the rationale for drug therapy. Prerequisites: PSY 5105, PSY 5502.<br />

PSY 5521 ASSESSMENT OF INTELLIGENCE (3 credits). Familiarizes the<br />

student with the major intellectual assessment instruments currently in use, with<br />

emphasis on the administration, scoring and interpretation <strong>of</strong> the Wechsler Scales.<br />

Special attention given to historical, cross-cultural and ethnic minority issues and<br />

controversies involved in the assessment <strong>of</strong> intelligence. Corequisites: PSY 5522.<br />

PSY 5522 LABORATORY IN ASSESSMENT OF INTELLIGENCE (1 credit).<br />

Training in scoring and interpretation <strong>of</strong> intellectual assessment instruments<br />

covered in PSY 5521. Corequisites: PSY 5521.<br />

PSY 5524 LABORATORY IN ASSESSMENT OF PERSONALITY (1 credit). Training<br />

in scoring and interpretation <strong>of</strong> personality assessment instruments covered in<br />

PSY 5528. Corequisites: PSY 5528.<br />

PSY 5527 OBJECTIVE PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT (3 credits). Introduces<br />

current major self-report personality tests with emphasis on administering, scoring<br />

and interpreting the MMPI-2/MMPI-A and familiarity with MCMI-III, NEO-PI-R,<br />

PAI, 16PF and various checklists. Includes test development issues, ethical standards,<br />

test feedback and report-writing skills. Prerequisites: PSY 5501, PSY 5521.<br />

PSY 5528 PROJECTIVE PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT (3 credits). Introduces<br />

semistructured and projective techniques with emphasis on administering, coding and<br />

interpreting the Rorschach (Exner System) and exposure to the TAT, sentence completion<br />

methods and projective drawing techniques. Includes exposure to dynamic/<br />

content analysis and integration <strong>of</strong> multiple sources <strong>of</strong> test data. Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 5527. Corequisites: PSY 5524.<br />

PSY 5529 ASSESSMENT OF CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS<br />

(2 credits). Introduces the developmental and behavioral assessment practices<br />

for use with young children who present autism spectrum disorders, attention<br />

deficit disorder, other disruptive behavior problems, and developmental delays<br />

across multiple domains. Prerequisites: PSY 5521.<br />

PSY 5540 PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION THERAPY (2 credits). Provides<br />

an introductory overview to both phases <strong>of</strong> the cognitive-behavioral treatment<br />

modality, parent-child interaction therapy (PCI), which covers an assortment <strong>of</strong><br />

childhood behavior disorders. Includes both child-directed interaction and parentdirected<br />

interaction.<br />

PSY 5541 CLINICAL SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES 1 (3 credits). Provides theory<br />

and experience in basic attending, listening, responding, personalizing and initiating<br />

skills. Students learn interviewing strategies, risk assessment, crisis intervention<br />

and integration <strong>of</strong> observational data with case conceptualization and treatment<br />

planning. Two credits <strong>of</strong> didactic and one <strong>of</strong> experiential laboratory.<br />

PSY 5542 CLINICAL SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES 2 (3 credits). Provides<br />

advanced training in psychotherapeutic techniques and case conceptualization skills<br />

necessary for effective psychotherapeutic treatment planning and interventions.<br />

Two credits <strong>of</strong> didactic and one <strong>of</strong> experiential laboratory. Prerequisites: PSY 5541.<br />

PSY 5545 CLINICAL HYPNOSIS (3 credits). A journeyman’s guide to the various<br />

applications <strong>of</strong> hypnosis in psychotherapy. Focuses on tests for suggestibility, techniques<br />

for trance induction, age regression and hypnotic procedures with a variety<br />

<strong>of</strong> clinical problems to include anxiety disorders, habit disorders, sexual dysfunction<br />

and psychosomatic disorders. Prerequisites: PSY 5501.<br />

PSY 5547 DYNAMICS OF GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY (3 credits). Studies group<br />

psychotherapy from the perspective <strong>of</strong> research on group dynamics. Considers the<br />

history and major types <strong>of</strong> group therapy, and provides an experiential component.<br />

Prerequisites: PSY 5501.<br />

PSY 5553 PSYCHOTHERAPY MODELS: COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL (3 credits).<br />

Includes theory and conceptual foundations <strong>of</strong> cognitive behavioral approaches,<br />

and case conceptualization and treatment from a cognitive-behavioral perspective.<br />

A lab component incorporates discussion and modeling <strong>of</strong> techniques, emphasizing<br />

the practical application <strong>of</strong> cognitive-behavioral intervention procedures.<br />

Prerequisites: PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5554 PSYCHOTHERAPY MODELS: PSYCHODYNAMIC (3 credits). Includes<br />

theory and conceptual foundations <strong>of</strong> psychodynamic approaches, and case conceptualization<br />

and treatment planning from a psychodynamic perspective. A lab component<br />

incorporates discussion and modeling <strong>of</strong> techniques, emphasizing the practical<br />

application <strong>of</strong> psychodynamic intervention procedures. Prerequisites: PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5555 PSYCHOTHERAPY MODELS: HUMANISTIC/EXISTENTIAL<br />

(3 credits). Includes theory and conceptual foundations <strong>of</strong> humanistic/existential<br />

approaches, and conceptualization and treatment planning from a humanistic/<br />

existential perspective. A lab component incorporates discussion and modeling <strong>of</strong><br />

techniques, emphasizing the practical application <strong>of</strong> humanistic/existential intervention<br />

procedures. Prerequisites: PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5556 PSYCHOTHERAPY MODELS: FAMILY APPROACHES (3 credits).<br />

Includes theory and conceptual foundations <strong>of</strong> family treatment approaches, and<br />

case conceptualization and treatment planning from a family perspective. A lab<br />

component incorporates discussion and modeling <strong>of</strong> techniques, emphasizing the<br />

practical application <strong>of</strong> family intervention procedures. Prerequisites: PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5565 CHILD DISORDERS AND PSYCHOTHERAPY (3 credits). Studies the<br />

nature, etiology, characteristics, assessment and treatment <strong>of</strong> emotional, social and<br />

intellectual problems <strong>of</strong> children.<br />

PSY 5570 MULTICULTURAL PSYCHOTHERAPY (3 credits). Provides an applied<br />

clinical overview <strong>of</strong> the major theoretical models <strong>of</strong> multicultural psychotherapy.<br />

Develops skills in using a multicultural orientation to guide the diagnosis, assessment<br />

and treatment <strong>of</strong> psychological disorders. Prerequisites: PSY 5120.<br />

PSY 5591 SEMINAR IN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND ETHICAL<br />

PRINCIPLES IN PSYCHOLOGY 1 (1 credit). Discusses pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics and<br />

standards in psychology. Required for all first-year clinical students.<br />

PSY 5592 SEMINAR IN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND ETHICAL<br />

PRINCIPLES IN PSYCHOLOGY 2 (1 credit). Discussion and implementation <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics and standards in psychology and one’s own pr<strong>of</strong>essional development.<br />

(Required for all second-year clinical students.) Prerequisites: PSY 5591.<br />

PSY 5593 SEMINAR IN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND ETHICAL<br />

PRINCIPLES IN PSYCHOLOGY 3 (1 credit). Discusses pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics and<br />

standards in psychology. Required for all third-year clinical students. Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 5592.<br />

PSY 5595 PRACTICUM (1-6 credits). Supervised clinical work in an approved<br />

on- or <strong>of</strong>f-campus setting. Placement at sites is determined by the Office <strong>of</strong> Clinical<br />

Training. Experiences will vary among sites to include assessment, intervention,<br />

cumulative and supervisory experiences. (Requirement: Clinical director approval<br />

and prerequisite course.) Prerequisites: PSY 5002, PSY 5502, PSY 5527, PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5596 SUPERVISED CLINICAL EXPERIENCE (1 credit). Experience in<br />

clinical settings, providing supervised psychological services to specialized populations.<br />

Seen as a pre-practicum experience, therefore does not fulfill supervised<br />

practical experience requirements <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />
