BUS 5651 HEALTHCARE POLICY (3 credits). Analyzes key contemporary issues<br />

in healthcare policy. Includes design and structure <strong>of</strong> the U.S. healthcare system,<br />

policy initiatives and the roles <strong>of</strong> government, the private sector, consumers and<br />

advocacy groups in setting policy agenda.<br />

BUS 5653 INFORMATION MANAGEMENT IN HEALTHCARE (3 credits).<br />

Addresses issues related to the management <strong>of</strong> information for healthcare practitioners<br />

and consumers. Provides insight and experience, and applications <strong>of</strong> information<br />

technology that improve the quality <strong>of</strong> healthcare communication and delivery,<br />

and facilitates healthcare research.<br />

BUS 5654 LEGAL ASPECTS OF HEALTHCARE (3 credits). Analyzes healthcare<br />

business entities and the regulations with which they must comply. Discusses individual<br />

right to access, and malpractice and its defense. Examines legal perspectives<br />

to starting a new healthcare business venture, and information necessary before<br />

entering into a joint healthcare venture.<br />

BUS 5656 CONSUMER BEHAVIOR STRATEGIES (3 credits). Examines the consumer<br />

decision-making process and its societal, environmental, group and economic<br />

determinants. Includes research, analysis and strategy development in consumer<br />

motivations, values, wants, needs and behavior. (Requirement: Must be enrolled<br />

in <strong>Florida</strong> Tech University Online.) Prerequisites: BUS 5470.<br />

BUS 5657 ADVANCED MARKET RESEARCH (3 credits). Examines the consumer<br />

decision-making processes and behavior through the application <strong>of</strong> qualitative and<br />

quantitative research methods. Includes problem identification, secondary research,<br />

data gathering, analysis, interpretation and report writing. (Requirement: Must be<br />

enrolled in <strong>Florida</strong> Tech University Online.) Prerequisites: BUS 5470.<br />

BUS 5658 HEALTHCARE PLANNING AND MARKETING (3 credits). Discusses<br />

and applies the concepts <strong>of</strong> healthcare planning and marketing to healthcare delivery,<br />

assessment <strong>of</strong> community needs and resource planning in both ambulatory and<br />

clinical settings. Includes health services planning and trends, demand for and use<br />

<strong>of</strong> health services, research methods and sources <strong>of</strong> marketing and planning data.<br />

BUS 5661 STRATEGIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Covers the role<br />

<strong>of</strong> project management in a business or corporate environment. Teaches how to<br />

achieve project goals and objectives within set constraints such as time and budget.<br />

(Requirement: Must be enrolled in <strong>Florida</strong> Tech University Online.)<br />

BUS 5662 PROJECT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES (3 credits). Covers tools and<br />

techniques used to plan and control projects and accomplish business objectives.<br />

Emphasizes how to determine which tool or technique to use during different<br />

phases <strong>of</strong> the project life cycle. Uses project management s<strong>of</strong>tware in exercises.<br />

(Requirement: Must be enrolled in <strong>Florida</strong> Tech University Online.) Prerequisites:<br />

BUS 5661.<br />

BUS 5668 CASES IN APPLIED PROJECT MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Covers<br />

planning and managing a project from initiation and execution to closeout, using<br />

learned project management concepts. Provides hands-on experience in planning<br />

and managing through a student project. Gives insight through case studies and<br />

real-world analyses. (Requirement: Must be enrolled in <strong>Florida</strong> Tech University<br />

Online.) Prerequisites: BUS 5662.<br />

BUS 5669 MASTERING PROJECT MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Covers the generally<br />

accepted project management practices in industry (such as construction, s<strong>of</strong>tware,<br />

engineering and automotive). Emphasizes the process-based approach (inputs,<br />

tools and technology, and outputs). Includes the nine knowledge areas <strong>of</strong> project<br />

management. (Requirement: Must be enrolled in <strong>Florida</strong> Tech University Online.)<br />

BUS 5840 FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT POLICY (3 credits). Introduces the<br />

three primary areas <strong>of</strong> concern to financial policy makers (capital budgeting,<br />

capital structure and working capital) and integrates this framework with a range<br />

<strong>of</strong> international financial concepts. Also explores the pr<strong>of</strong>ound effect that foreign<br />

operations can have on financial statements.<br />

BUS 5858 LEADING IN THE TECHNOLOGY-ORIENTED ENTERPRISE<br />

(3 credits). Examines the leadership challenges inherent in managing a technology-oriented<br />

enterprise. Presents various leadership approaches and describes<br />

their application in managing innovation and technology. Also addresses the role<br />

<strong>of</strong> leadership in system design and development in integrated product teams.<br />

BUS 5870 GLOBAL MARKETING MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Emphasizes the<br />

global nature <strong>of</strong> marketing and the factors that shape it, including analysis <strong>of</strong> the<br />

multilateral environment in which firms operate, global marketing research and<br />

alternative strategies for market entry and development. Contemporary topics<br />

may include relationship marketing, sourcing strategy and business-to-business<br />

marketing.<br />

BUS 5899 FINAL SEMESTER THESIS (0-2 credits). Variable registration for thesis<br />

completion after satisfaction <strong>of</strong> minimum registration requirements. (Requirements:<br />

Accepted petition to graduate and approval by Office <strong>of</strong> Graduate Programs.)<br />

BUS 5990 INDEPENDENT STUDY (1-3 credits). Offers master’s-level independent<br />

research or directed study under the direction <strong>of</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong><br />

Business graduate faculty. May require deliverables such as a comprehensive paper.<br />

(Requirement: Program chair approval.)<br />

BUS 5999 THESIS (3-6 credits). Students must register with the director <strong>of</strong><br />

industry/education programs at least two months prior to the start <strong>of</strong> the semester.<br />

Minimum requirements include formal written and oral presentations, weekly<br />

summary reports and a minimum <strong>of</strong> 120 hours working at a host employer’s location.<br />

(Requirement: Associate dean approval.)<br />

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING<br />

CHE 1091 NANOSCIENCE/NANOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY (1 credit).<br />

Introduces science/engineering freshmen interested in careers in nanoscience<br />

research/nanotechnology to techniques <strong>of</strong> nanomaterial fabrication by thin film<br />

deposition and chemical synthesis, and sample characterization techniques like<br />

atomic force and scanning tunneling microscopes. (Requirement: Freshman status<br />

or instructor approval.) Prerequisites: CHM 1101.<br />

CHE 1101 INTRODUCTION TO CHEMICAL ENGINEERING 1 (2 credits).<br />

Introduces the chemical engineering pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Discusses the role <strong>of</strong> an engineer<br />

as a problem solver dealing with multiple constraints. Covers process flowsheets,<br />

and piping and instrumentation diagrams in Micros<strong>of</strong>t ® PowerPoint. ® (Requirement:<br />

Must be enrolled in the chemical engineering program.) (CL)<br />

CHE 1102 INTRODUCTION TO CHEMICAL ENGINEERING 2 (1 credit).<br />

Applies the skills learned in CHE 1101 to a design problem presented in oral and<br />

written form. Presents statistics, plotting and spreadsheeting in Micros<strong>of</strong>t ® Excel ® ,<br />

and curve fitting using Oakdale Engineering DataFit. (Requirement: Enrollment<br />

in chemical engineering degree program.) (CL)<br />

CHE 2101 CHEMICAL PROCESS PRINCIPLES 1 (3 credits). Basic principles<br />

and calculations in chemical engineering; application <strong>of</strong> physical and chemical principles<br />

to solutions <strong>of</strong> elementary engineering problems; steady- and unsteady-state<br />

material and energy balances; heats <strong>of</strong> formation, reaction and mixing; equilibrium<br />

process models. Prerequisites: CHM 1101, MTH 1001.<br />

CHE 2102 CHEMICAL PROCESS PRINCIPLES 2 (3 credits). Basic principles<br />

and calculations in chemical engineering; application <strong>of</strong> physical and chemical<br />

principles to solutions <strong>of</strong> elementary engineering problems; steady- and unsteadystate<br />

material and energy balances; heats <strong>of</strong> formation, reaction and mixing;<br />

equilibrium process models. Prerequisites: CHE 2101, CHM, 1102, MTH 1002.<br />

Corequisites: CHM 1102.<br />

CHE 3101 TRANSPORT PROCESSES (3 credits). Includes models for molecularlevel<br />

transport mechanisms; bulk transport <strong>of</strong> momentum; pipe flow and pipeline<br />

design and optimization; rheologic behavior and viscometry; compressible flow;<br />

pressure and flow measurement; flow through fixed and fluidized beds; two-phase<br />

flow; pumping; boundary-layer theory. Prerequisites: CHE 2102, MTH 2201.<br />

Corequisites: MTH 2201.<br />

CHE 3103 HEAT TRANSFER PROCESSES (3 credits). Theory and applications<br />

<strong>of</strong> heat transfer; conduction, convection, radiation, condensation and evaporation;<br />

heat transfer in reaction vessels; humidification and water cooling; thermowell and<br />

heat exchanger design and optimization. Prerequisites: CHE 2102, MTH 2201.<br />

CHE 3104 MASS TRANSFER PROCESSES (3 credits). Includes fundamental<br />

principles and applications <strong>of</strong> mass transfer and separation processes; diffusion<br />

and stagnant-layer approximation; two-film theory and surface renewal; flash and<br />

batch differential distillation; continuous binary and multicomponent rectification;<br />

and batch fractionation. Prerequisites: CHE 2102, MTH 2201.<br />

CHE 3110 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING THERMODYNAMICS (3 credits).<br />

Studies the thermodynamics <strong>of</strong> chemical solutions and reactions. Includes ideal<br />

and non-ideal solutions, phase equilibria, single- and two-phase reaction equilibria.<br />

Prerequisites: CHE 2102.<br />

CHE 3115 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING PROCESSES LAB 1 (2 credits). Includes<br />

experimental demonstration <strong>of</strong> theory covered in CHE 3101, CHE 3103 and<br />

CHE 3104. Prerequisites: CHE 3101, CHE 3103, CHE 3104.<br />

CHE 3170 INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING<br />

(3 credits). Introduces the field <strong>of</strong> environmental engineering that emphasizes the<br />

interrelationships among air, water and land pollution and the effect <strong>of</strong> ecological,<br />

economic and sociological constraints on the solution <strong>of</strong> environmental problems.<br />
