The military science program prepares <strong>Florida</strong> Tech ROTC cadets<br />

to serve as commissioned <strong>of</strong>ficers in the United States Army, Army<br />

Reserve and Army National Guard. Technical, scientific and military<br />

studies are incorporated into the curriculum with emphasis on applied<br />

leadership and problem solving skills.<br />

Current freshmen and sophomores with no prior military service who<br />

seek an ROTC scholarship may attend the Leader’s Training Course<br />

between their second and third years. Students incur no service<br />

commitment on completion <strong>of</strong> this course. This 32-day camp provides<br />

students with basic military and problem solving skills, combined<br />

with physical training.<br />

The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Interdisciplinary Science – Military<br />

Science is earned by satisfying the degree requirements listed for<br />

the bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary science and completing<br />

the advanced military science program as described under “College<br />

<strong>of</strong> Psychology and Liberal Arts.” All military science (MSC) courses<br />

taken are applicable to this degree.<br />

the advanced military science program listing.<br />

MINOR PROGRAMS<br />

Minors in athletics coaching, education and sustainability are <strong>of</strong>fered<br />

through the department and are available to all majors. A complete<br />

policy statement regarding minors can be found in the Academic<br />

Overview section. Information about current minor <strong>of</strong>ferings is available<br />

through the individual colleges/departments. See the director <strong>of</strong><br />

Athletics Coaching Certification<br />

The Athletics Coaching Certificate from the <strong>Florida</strong> Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Education is appropriate for those students who plan to coach<br />

and/or are seeking a career in the fields <strong>of</strong> sports. Those holding<br />

<strong>Florida</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Teaching Certificates may receive the Coaching<br />

Endorsement from the Department <strong>of</strong> Education. Others may receive<br />

the certificate.<br />

<strong>Florida</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Education administrative rule 6A-4.0282<br />

(specific authority 1001.02, 1012.55, 1012.56 FS) states that nine<br />

(9) semester credit hours <strong>of</strong> athletics coaching training are needed<br />

to obtain an athletics coaching endorsement or certificate. An additional<br />

requirement is a valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)<br />

course completion card or certificate issued by the American Heart<br />

Association, or the American Red Cross or equivalent CPR course<br />

completion card or certificate issued by an entity approved by the<br />

<strong>Florida</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Health pursuant to rule 64E-2.038, F.A.C.<br />

All <strong>of</strong> these requirements are met by successfully completing the<br />
