Batu/Petongkangan Intersection<br />

Widening the existing roundabout at the<br />

Kota Terminal would create an area <strong>for</strong><br />

buses to queue after dropping passengers<br />

and be<strong>for</strong>e picking up. The current system<br />

results in passengers waiting a long time to<br />

alight when additional buses are added.<br />

As at the Blok M terminal, there is a<br />

problem of the buses departing less than<br />

full. Creating a separate boarding plat<strong>for</strong>m<br />

<strong>for</strong> passengers willing to stand from those<br />

wishing to sit would allow those willing to<br />

stand to board faster, and increase the load<br />

factor of each bus, increasing system<br />

efficiency.<br />

As in other areas, illegally idling<br />

paratransit vehicles consume a full<br />

traffic lane.<br />

Another major bottleneck is created at the Pintu/Besar/Jem.Batu/Petongkangan<br />

Intersection, with some 500 to 1500 meters of congestion much of the day. This<br />

bottleneck could be improved significantly by reducing the signal phasing from three<br />

phases to two in the manner below. This would require also rerouting some right turning<br />

northbound traffic in manner shown below:<br />
